This may sound silly but the best nokia is the one that works

No point in having a n97 (mmmm lovely phone), and then being on verizon as it won't work

the best looking nokia for spec, ease of use and good looking is for me the
    n97 or e71

although I do miss my old 8800

    Depends what style you want.

    Text/email/chat workhorse? Get the E72.
    Otherwise get the N97.

The N97 is highly overpriced imo though...

    E72 definitely looks slick.

I'd love to have one as an alternate to my 5800XM =)

The E72 is certainly a great BlackBerry alternative. It shouldn't be compared to a BlackBerry because there's no contest there. Instead the E72 should be compared to other N-series devices. I'd wait for the Nokia early adopter tax to go away before picking one up. I also like the N86. The N97 is overpriced with the laughworthy S60v5. The 5800 has S60v5 but it's not overpriced meaning that it would be nice to have as a toy.

The N97 may be expensive but it does come unlocked & unbranded which is a big part of the reason it is so expensive. Really when you look at it,It's a nice piece of equipment compared to others.

The N97 is marked up more than it should be.

Basically the processor speed on the 5800 is identical to the N97 after the v20 firmware update. They run the same apps, same screen res. The only real differences is the n97 has a slightly bigger screen, 32gb internal storage (which is not all it's cracked up to be since s60v5 can install to microsd anyways), a bit higher build quality and a hardware keyboard (the hardware keyboard is very far from optimal).

The n97 speakerphone quality is far worse though.

For triple the price almost?..... Not worth it. Phones in the similar price range as the N97 come with OLED screens and 3d accelerators...

how do you like the 5800? I almost bought one ,They are priced very well I think about $250 direct from Nokia unbranded/unlocked which is a really good price.

Great phone for the price, depending on what you use it for.

If you primarily browse I'd avoid it. The browser is unstable on heavy sites (I'd wager the N97 is the same). Think this is more of a s60v5 issue than the 5800. If you only browse lighter or medium sites it might be fine.

Excellent music phone though. Dedicated media button+bar, very good speakerphone quality.

Hard to argue with $250 unlocked and unbranded. Very competitive for it's price range.

It's a killer deal. How is the email client ? I opted for a E90 because the price was too good to pass up.

Not a fan of the default email client.

You have some 3rd party options though:
1 - Nokia Email (push email, setup is similar to BIS). Currently free beta in the US
2 - Profimail. $20-25 1 time cost. Better UI than Nokia Email. Supports imap idle, pop, etc.

But Nokia phones on a whole are usually sttrong and robust...

What I like about them,is they come fully loaded and unbranded/unlocked which in the U.S. is a big plus considering 99% of all phones here are locked to a carrier.

Well this seems like a good place to post my first impressions on the N97, im a bold user and got the N97 to check it out i have had nokia phone before.

1st off keyboard just horrible, and im not comparing it to the bold or maybe i am either way i am having a hard time adjusting im going to give it a few more days to give it a fair chance right now though, it is a headache.

Now i also have an iphone which has been converted into a touch as of late compliments of my bold, and this resistive touch screen i cannot get the hang of.

the music player is ok mediocre at best, and the camera of course you cant forget the 5 megapixal camera which is indeed amazing i wont lie. its the best feature on the phone to me so far, even the ability to customize the screen isnt all that appealing to me due to the fact i cant get a hold of this resistive screen coming from an iphone.

I honestly believe using the iphone the bold and the storm this symbian device is a bit different, so i will give it time, but right now its a migrane in my pocket.

The 5800 has better audio/music than the N97.

I seriously would avoid Nokia s60v5 devices like the plague... They did a very poor job with all of them.
