Claiming to offer the worlds first full 3D experience, the LG Optimus 3D smartphone features a number of innovative technologies, including the first dual-core, dual-channel and dual-memory architecture as well as the first 3D platform allowing for recording, viewing and sharing of 3D content.

The tri-dual configuration delivers significant improvements in performance and run-time compared to smartphone when compared to smartphones utilising 1GHz dual-core processors as it enables simultaneous, and thus faster, transfer of data. The LG Optimus 3D will be rolled-out globally starting with Europe early in the second quarter. The phone will initially be released with Android 2.2 (Froyo) and will be upgradeable to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread).

Smartphones are going to go through a generational shift in 2011. With dual core processors and LTE we will be setting new standards, said Dr. Jong-seok Park, President and CEO of LG Mobile Communications. We think that dual core smartphones will herald a significant turning point in the market. He concluded his remarks by claiming that 2011 will see LG becoming a key contender in smartphones, commenting watch this space.

LG also unveiled its Optimus Pad tablet which features a unique 8.9-inch display for one-handed portability and uncompromising viewability, a departure from the trend toward tablets featuring 7- and 10-inch screens. The new tablet uses Googles Android 3.0 platform and the NVIDIA Tegra 2 mobile processor. LG says it is the worlds first tablet with a 3D camera offering users an immersive multimedia environment with Full HD 1080p decoding. Announcing the new device Daniel Hernandez, European marketing director for LG, said There have been a flood of tablets launched, around 45 to date, the drawback is that some have just been bigger smartphones, others are not good for productivity and others are not really portable. Our new offering will set the benchmark and standard for tablets.

LG also unveiled the worlds first demonstration of Voice over LTE (VoLTE) technology and Video call over LTE on the Revolution, the first 4G LTE smartphone from LG.
