Dead on Arrival, used by police and other first responders when a person is already dead when they arrive on the scene. It's also used in the business world to describe a product that is canceled during any of its toll gate phases of development, since it's considered dead when it reaches the next project milestone.

Wasn't too long ago there was a lot of optimism around the several new mobile OS that were planned to be released...

    Tizen - on hold
Meego - history now (some of MeeGo went into Sailfish)
Sailfish - they put their first 450 devices up for sail last Nov, but they are sill working on the SDK - pretty sure this isn't going anywhere very fast.....
FireFox - they are selling devices in a few markets, not sure how they are doing.
BB10 - possible the best selling of the new OS. But even they are now going the Android Ecosystem route.

Basically everyone is turning to Android's ecosystem, but unfortunately Google is closing the doors on them.

I don't think Google especially likes iOS, or even Android for that matter LOL. Google likes eyeballs, and if ditching Android meant a guaranteed increase in eyeballs, Google would ditch Android, I think.

This is what makes Google Deadly. Everyone else has to worry about P&L. Google makes money on Search. Most of their initiatives are ultimately designed to promote "Search" in some way, but either keeping people coming to Google.com or locking out competitors from their lucrative search business.

Google did Android primarily to make sure someone else didn't take over searching on Mobile devices by embedded a new search engine in their own OS.

That doesn't make sense. It's just a cancelled, unfinished, unreleased product. It's never used in this context. There is no arrival, just stop.

    Don't disagree. Great points.

But it could all blow up on them if:

    1. Android ever lost significant market share or
    2. If someone actually came along and did a better job at search than Google and people started using that instead

What happened with Tizen powered smart watches? Anyway, we all knew it was imminent death.
It's not fair to blame Google for restraining access to Google services. If access is closed for BB10, why should it be opened for Tizen? In a way, Google played fair.
