    Hi guys,
I'm leaving tomorrow for a week trip in Oman (just under the UAE).
We will travel a bit (not on the Yemen side, for those anxious) so that I need something really reliable for both voice/text and data.

I have no decent (€1.80 per Mb !) roaming with my (French) carrier (SFR) so that I plan to grab a SIM at the airport.
    Any advice ?
Oh, BTW, just wondering if I could have radio problems ... (note : can choose from various BB10 devices (Q/Z 10, Z30, Passport/SE + Priv).

    Thanks for any info !

Hey, why not try to get onesimcard in Oman, they are offering free incoming calls and texts. Check out this site: OmanSimCard

Thanks, but they seem to be for calls/SMS only ... I need data too (but maybe I read it wrong ?)

    Edit : there's a onesimcard + for that.

re-edit : Oman is not in the country w/ data list. Won't fit then.

For those coming later here :

    Oman networks/bands

    2G/GSM is on 900 MHz,
    3G/UMTS on 900 and 2100 MHz.
4G/LTE started 2013 on 1800 MHz on Omantel and Ooredoo and is available on prepaid.
Ooredoo added 800 MHz for FD-LTE and Omantel started TD-LTE on 2300 MHz too.

    PRIV Specs
    WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM 850/900/1800/1900
    LTE 700/800/900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2500/2600

    Passport Specs
    WCDMA (UMTS) / GSM 850/900/1800/1900
    LTE 700/800/850/900/1700/1800/1900/2100/2600

Appears there's only 2 local operators, one being the leader with the largest coverage.

Not sure I get it all browsing their site, so I believe I can handle that at the airport, their booth is supposed to be open 24/7 there :

    Muscat International Airport
    Seeb
    Phone number
    23.588197
    Opening hours
    24HR

Maybe you could get by with the OmanSIMcard? That gives you emergency calls and text and then you survive on hotel WiFi, and cafe's?

In fact cell calls is not a real problem; quite expensive (abt CAN$ 2 per minute) but I have set my responder message accordingly asking for an e-mail message instead

I've been to Salalah a couple times. I'm on Tmobile. Using Wifi is your best bet for everything. BBM, whatsapp, wifi calling (ect). You don't want to be on their net work. Too expensive. I know.

T-Mobile is different and unique too, they even offer global roaming and "free data" in many countries, although I'm not sure if Oman is one of them. Usually the OTHER T-Mobile has to be in that country.

+100 for Wifi, already checked, will have it - say - 50% of the time.
But for my business, I need to be reachable ... and to be able to reach others pretty much 24/7 ... including in car while traveling.
I believe the local carriers have decent offers for that matter and I'll swap my SIM maybe once or twice a day to check calls ...

    Thanks !
