I've read some old posts on other sites about being able to use a locked Rogers phone on the petro canada mobility network ? Is this still true today?

I see a few used Z10 and Q5 on Kijiji locked to Rogers and want to get my wife a phone. Doesn't need a data plan, just talk and text. Doesn't use it too often...so pay as you go is a good option.

Figured a used BlackBerry 10 device for $100-$150 is a better deal and phone than what petro canada mobility is currently offering.

    Thoughts ?

I have two answers for you

    1) You can always unlock any phone. blackberries usually unlock for about $5-$10 on ebay and I remember that crackberry use to have the "unlocking partners" but I don't know what happened to it. I unlocked my Bold 9900 for $3.50 6 months ago.

    2) according to wikipedia petro canada runs on the robers' network so most likely a rogers' phone WILL work on their network: Petro-Canada Mobility - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

I'll most likely get my existing petro can sim cut down to microsim size and try it out in my locked z10. If it works, my wife is getting it and I will get myself a new b10 device. :-)

Careful cutting your sim card down. It could get stuck in your BlackBerry 10 device. Try to buy a new micro sim card if possible

Hogwash, I cut sims myself and they all fit in my BlackBerry Q10 no problem, none got 'stuck' because I filed smooth the sharp corners.
