'Pre-Commitment' program signals the end is in sight?
- Forgive me if someone else has already noted this, but we're all aware that the pre-commitment program was launched, any was promptly dismissed as a a glorified newsletter, but I think we can make some inferences based on the form.
For convenience: https://www.onwardmobility.com/waitlist/
Firstly, the question in relation to volume of devices requested, and secondly in relation to the carrier checkboxes.
Why would they ask either question unless they had at the very least a working prototype of the new phone? The form is a survey. They'll use the responses in order to give production volume to the factory, and it will allow them to make better pitches to carriers. In addition, it will allow them to tweak their marketing campaign so it's demographic specific.
Separately, you will note on the main homepage (https://www.onwardmobility.com/) that 2021 is underlined. It's like, they're aware their deadline slipped, and they want to say "trust us it will be 2021" without saying this explicitly, because it's bad PR to acknowledge that a deadline has been missed.
I'm still using my Key2 (which at this point is my 2nd Key2) until the end of 2021 at the least. My 'personal' deadline for OM is March 2022, at which point I'll pick up a UHTpocket. Probably.

This is a deeply unorganized and unprofessional operation that is demonstrably incapable of bringing a phone to market.
You can wait until March 2022 for them to come out with a phone but the results will be the same as if you waited until tomorrow.
A company that can't do the business basics could never do the complicated acrobatics required of delivering a device.
Theyre way below crush depth and ran out of oxygen long ago. Say a prayer for the Sailors of the USS Onward Mobility.

I do think this signals they are having problems and that it's likely we are looking at six to eight months.... if ever.
If Unihertz opens up the door to another round of sales.... I'd order one or two anyway. They need all the help they can get, and they seem to be the only one offering a PKB option.
Because I have my doubts that they will be another from them, unless sales improve greatly - and not just for the Pocket but across their whole line of products.09-21-21 07:50 AMLike 0 - There is, but in this case, Peter was eventually found holding on to a potato thinking it was the 1MC.09-21-21 10:28 AMLike 4
- My view is it would have been easier to not do anything... if it was all over.

Broadcasting this survey (through as few channels as possible - a half-hearted post on LinkedIn and using Adam, again, as their mouthpiece) admits a back to the drawing board reality that doesn't jive with, what I believe, was a patently absurd lie they tricked Adam into peddling.
The lie was that they were within field goal range and some bizarre series of events prevented them from announcing anything or doing anything or taking any sort of meaningful action.
You have a group of relatively young professionals who are probably trying to think about how to wind this thing down in as delicate a manner as possible to ensure they might still have a career future in Mobile.
This is a disaster. Organizationally, professionally and probably personally. Just letting it drift out to sea probably seems too abrupt to them.
They can't show up late to their next job without some sort of doctor's note.
This is them slow-walking the sunset. Big promises and fever dreams. Who could take these people seriously without a carefully-crafted excuse?

09-21-21 11:20 AMLike 5 - OM is like a guy who makes good fried chicken at home, but has no restaurant experience - doesn't know anything about food suppliers, soda machines, labor costs, marketing strategies, building codes, health codes, etc.), trying to open a fried chicken restaurant in between a Popeyes and a KFC and thinking he has a real shot at success - and then trying to find investors to give him the money to get started.
BB occupied two niches that don't necessarily have the same goals: PKB phones, and "more secure" phones. And their target customer (enterprise companies) are also demanding and costly. These things all mean higher per-unit costs and higher support costs, and the ONLY way to make those costs manageable is through high volume sales. But we all know that there's no chance of high-volume sales anymore. OM already told us that security was not really their priority - hence not using BB Android, BB Apps, or BB's security. Why they believed they could get ANY corporate interest without those things I'm not sure, but obviously they couldn't. They certainly can't get enterprise customers without certifications (that take years to achieve) or without a vast support infrastructure, which they can't afford. I have no idea why they thought they could, but reality seems to have kicked in finally.
But that more-or-less leaves a generic PKB phone with the BB logo on it. That will be good enough for a few folks, but not for a lot of former BB users. Then there is the unit price, which I suspect would need to be higher than most here assume. All in all, IMO, I don't think OM could sell more than about 20,000 units at this point, and while that might be more than Unihertz, it's still Kickstarter territory, not "the majors."09-21-21 04:05 PMLike 4 - Unihertz just went live at 10pm EST on their own website for the Titan Pocket US pre-order to be shipped out to US 10/9. I've ordered one to cover me in the interim as my Key2 is being held together by tape and a prayer right now. Still waiting for Onward Mobility but gotta use something!09-21-21 09:36 PMLike 0

My Key2 broke earlier this year so I relied on my work phone and dabbled with an old classic until the Titan Pocket shipped. Personally I prefer the Key2. The screen size for the Pocket is a bit of a pain in the butt as it is smaller than even the classic. If you are looking for an android phone I think the Key2 does is better because of the screen. The Key2 probably has a more recent security patch too.
That being said I do like the pocket. The keyboard works great, battery is good, it runs android 11 and the phone runs very well.
Still, I wish I had a key2, but the Pocket fit my budget better.09-22-21 02:44 PMLike 0
