The 7xxx and older blackberry series are undoubtly sexy. But why would you buy an older blackberry that doesn't have good connection speeds or any features besides a qwerty keyboard? I mean, they were nice in there day but there are better, sexier blackberrys avaliable today. I'm truly curious why..

Some people just stick with what they are familiar with, some are a little chintzy, and others just don't care for new.

Some people don't need to use the browser or play music, but want the anytime access to their email.

More reliable (in some cases). My 8703e was one solid little workhorse, that I couldn't screw up no matter how hard I tried.

I was the BB admin at a previous job and when we started pushing the curve onto users..they didnt want them. I know for a fact that the 7xxx series was stable as **** and less confusing.
They either just dont want to change or they see the extra options as useless.

when blackberrys first came out, the older people who started using them had a tough time figuring out how to use a new device, and they just don't see the need to do it again when they have a perfectly reliable device that fulfills their needs

I'll have to agree. I have a pearl 8130 and I hardly use the multimedia features. I have my BB for the email and ease of use. I don't even understand why some people pick handsets based on mp3 player and not what it can truly do.

Lol. That's how it is with us too. In a way, i kind of like the older ones too. I use the camera but could live without it. I alwasy have my digital camera. But I NEVER used my mp3 player. Wasted. Why pay for stuff you aren't going to use?

Now I have the iPhone and actually use most of the features daily. That didn't always happen with my BB.

I think its funny when everyone pulls out top of the line iphones, blackberrys, other smartphones etc... and I pull an old school 7290 out of my pocket. I get a lot of strange looks with it from people who know the difference.

The 7290 is a solid device that does what exactly what it says on the tin. It always gets the odd look when I pull it out and wouldn't swap it for a modern blackberry-i ve got my mp3 player and digital camera so I don't need the extra features that other bbs offer.

    Too true, sadly

From time to time i go back to my 7230 and just remember all the things it has been put through and survived. The move from my 7230 to Storm was very painful and for weeks had my growling and cursing the instability of the storm - that is compared to 7230.... Eventually i got used to only working with the storm which so far has been a mediocre experience.

The 7250 is a text monster and can be flashed to work on Cricket. They're dirt cheap on Ebay. The keyboard is great compared to newer phones so texting is faster and more accurate. Couple that with Cricket's dirt cheap service and you've got a winner. Oh yeah I love the WTF? looks when I pull it out too

I haven't had my BB long. I got it because it was inexpensive(7290 for $37.50) and had the QWERTY pad, I could text faster, I could keep notes/memos, I could keep a calender, check email and use the browser. I have a Nikon for pics and a radio in my car so the newer ones had nothing to offer me other than the WiFi and those are very out of my price range.

BTW, my other phone was my first phone and I had it for 2.5 years. It was a Moto C139 so you could say it was quite an upgrade even though it was just and old BB.

My sister-in-law broke her phone and had to get a new phone, wanted a BB but not the full-phone cost. So, she got something older. Now, once I get a Storm2, I'll probably give her my 8330 so she knows what a good upgrade looks like

Bold is my regular use phone but there are no good GSM based pre-paid plans in the US for temporary business travel. So I'm picking up a 7520 and using it with Boost Mobile. So instead of paying T-mobile some $50+ for a month of service that I'm not going to use I'm going to pay Boost $10 and re-up every time I'm in the US.

I have an old 7520 set up on Boost and its a cheap way to check my email,

I hope to do the same with a GSM 7290 in Europe ,

    the 7520 was $5 and the 7290 was $15,
can't get much cheaper than that !
