at work today we were cleaning out a clients storage closet, and i found a blackberry 6280 and an 8700c(score!!!!), unfortunately the 8700c needs a new battery but miraculously the 6280 powered right up and holds a charge great!. i want to see if this will actually work still. i looked up att's gophone plans and i can get a basic plan dirt cheap(25cents per minute, which is pretty expensive but i'm not going to use it as an actual phone, so for my purpose it is perfect).

someone correct me if i'm wrong, but one of the bands the 6280 uses is gsm 1900 mhz, and one of att's gsm bands is also 1900 mhz. theoretically it should work fine correct? it's a cingular phone.

also, where can i download desktop software for it, and is there a website i can get software for the 6270 as well?

Blackberryforums.com has a lot of older OS versions. You might check there.

Also, any plans for that 8700?

Hi. The 6820 bands are 850 MHz, 1800 MHz, 1900 MHz but it depends if the phone is unlocked or not. Go to settings, SIM card then type MEPD on your keyboard. If the NETWORK section says Active, your phone needs to be unlocked. I can help with that. For the device OS and App loader, go here: https://swdownloads.blackberry.com/D...E4F82F9F00E7D4

For desktop software, google Desktop software 4.5

thanks! i'll give that a try! and yea i'd be very interested in getting it unlocked. Since writing this my boss actually gave me another old blackberry, this one is a 7290. i wouldn't mind getting that one unlocked as well.

EDIT: the 6820 network says disabled. Does that mean it's unlocked?
