There was one company back in 2002 who wanted to challenge RIM on the Enterprise market but as expected, failed. Good managed to get one device on the market before being crushed by Blackberry and switched to software developing only. In the end it was bought by Blackberry and today provides security solutions for mobile devices.
Here are some photos I took of the device. For some strange reason there is a whale logo on the main PCB, that made me chuckle.

I've managed to buy one, how do you turn it on? I plugged into usb port, light blinked red for a while but then stopped and screen doesn't turn on, probably battery is dead completely..

Leave it on charge for a couple of hours. Mine had red light on for a long time then turned on.

cool device, did I get it right, goodlink produced alternative GUI for blackberry handsets prior to developing their own device?

BTW, don't you have any desktop software for this device (if any existed)?

yes, that is right. They were sued later for that. Could not find any software for it as the whole domain was purchased by BlackBerry and now is just redirecting to Blackberry website.
Seems like most of these devices ended up with damaged screens. Blackberry was better in that area. The old monochrome screens would get 'bruises' but not these very visible ink spots. Very interesting device anyway. Found the center wheel more practical than the blackberry side one.

absolutely! that's actually how Passport vertical scroll works, much more convenient to use a thumb than dealing with a wheel with a pointer finger, that you need to lift and drop too frequently
