BB Newbie (7290)
Hello everybody,
I just got a Blackberry 7290 from eBay and I need some help with the Internet functions. I just remove the IT policy and got Opera Mini to work but I can't download any files using it. It always prompts to invoke the browser but when I select Yes, nothing happen. It tells me that I don't have any services installed. I registered the Host Routing Table but nothing happened. I also can't send any e-mails. The phone and SMS works fine. I'm using the Blackberry in Asia. Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks.

sorry if this seems like a silly question, but do you have a data plan? :)
welcome to cb.

Yes I do. I'm using a prepaid account which comes with a data plan. I tried Opera Mini and the pages loads so the settings are correct.

did you click on the setup internet e-mail link on your homepage? if you didnt thats why, if you did, click set up internet e-mail then resend service books.
-
And try a battery pull too. :)

Where can I find the setup internet e-mail link? Can I download the service books and transfer them to the BB? Thanks for you help

Are you able to download files using the Blackberry browser? The current version of Opera Mini (version 4.0) doesn't support the downloads of files, instead it opens the default phone browser for it to download the file.

Thats my problem actually. I can't start the BlackBerry browser because I can't get the services books. My service provider don't support them. Is there other browser for the BlackBerry? I need a WAP browser for downloading OTA.

Hi
The only other available browser for BB is Opera Mini.
You will not be able to set up email unless you have a BB data plan & service books on your phone. I do not think you can download the service books from elsewhere as they are sent by the carrier.
Have you tried downloading via the Desktop Manager?
-
I'm using a Mac and Pocket SyncManager. I did try the check updates for my device option but it only gives me the version for Pocket SyncManager. I tried on both a Windows and Mac machine but thats all I got. Can I use the Desktop Manager to download the service books? Can you tell me how? Thanks alot

I do not know of a way to download service books onto your BB, sorry. As far as I am aware you can only get them from your carrier.
-
Thats too bad because my carrier doesn't really have those available. I can't even use e-mail due to this problem. I've install Gmail Mobile but I can't download from there either. I actually wanted to get ringtones for it. Is there another way to transfer ringtones?

Maybe its time for a Curve?

It appears that u have a data plan for phone but not a service plan for BB.Hence options are limited.
