Yup, that and a cell. The 900 holstered on the left hip and the cell holstered on the right hip, just like in the wild wild West.

Jeez, we're only talking 6-7 years ago! I have shirts and shoes older than that. I do recall that at the time I was using the 900 I had a Sprint PCS phone that could access the early mobile sites like CNN, etc. (and do email via a sprintpcs.com email address). All the 900 did was email, but boy it did it well.
it'd be cool if they brought an updated version of the 850 which runs on GSM/CDMA networks as a data only device :)
DON'T HATE THE OLD SCHOOL BLACKBERRY AT LEAST THEY TRYING TO HOP IN THE BB WORLD hA.
This is mine front and back!
I still use the 7520. Its probably the best one I've used. I guess you get dedicated to your favorite. I don't know If I'd want to update to a fancier new device.... That touch screen bb is a little too ric for my blood

My org still uses a few 900's, and a bunch of 7200 series. Curves are replacing them slowly. They started replacing them with 8700's a while back, but stopped when the 83xx curves came out. Much smaller.
Does anyone know if you can transfer the Blackberry1 chime from the 900 series BB to my Curve 8900? Or where I can download it? The Blackberry1 chimes was the original chime for incoming emails. Thanks.
I had a 900/inter@ctive pager in a late 90's until I moved up to a 957 sometime in 2000. Man that thing would eat AA's quick! I remember turning that old 900 back on in '03 or '04 and it still worked. No idea why the account was still active at that point! 957 was so much better.... have to dig through some boxes and see if I still have them. I have a feeling that 900 is still active!
When I was working in the USA, I had a 950 that originally came with wireless subscription from Aether Systems. Today, I still have the unit with and it's in working conditions.
But now I live in Singapore. Anyone have any idea how I can use the 950 in this part of the world?
Although now I have BB 9000 Bold, I just love the simplicity of the 950.
i must have one. anyone up for selling theirs? :D
better yet, is there a CDMA version? i'd love to use this for the heck of it! most MVNO prepaid carriers (such as Page Plus) allow even the oldest pre-e911 device on their network if you don't tell 'em! i had up until a few months ago a Nokia 5185i that still worked but ate batteries quick (the battery is over ten years old only so much you can make out of it!)
Are the networks still up for them old RIM BB pagers?
um, that was partly my question. did these exist during CDMA or were they specifically TDMA/AMPS devices? if the former making one work is a pain but it is possible, if you know the service NAM programming. if the latter, it will never work since AMPS/TDMA has been shut down for keeps since Feb 2008 :(
The Nokia 5100 series had many tri-band (CDMA/AMPS/TDMA) phones, my 5185i had that capability, so i managed to get it working on Page Plus (a Verizon MNVO) and could do it now if i wanted to. of course AMPS/TDMA would never work if not in a CDMA area and it would roam often but it did work. i could still phone call and text with it. i'd love to use an 850 or 900 for kicks since PPC is so cheap a service.
is this a 850
Wish I still had mine. Gave it to my 4 year old daughter to play with probably flushed down the toilet.

Ahhh! That was my first BlackBerry. I still remember when I'd take it with me on the Baltimore Beltway, when you got to the Southeast side and went past one of the transmission towers it would rattle across my dashboard.
That worked for so long and I got more productivity out of that than I ever did with my laptop. Great memory!
When I was a lot younger I used to play with my dad's RIM 850. He's been a long term user and had a new device for a long time and even met Jim Basilllie. He said he was even a nice man and this was before the BB took off, in 2001. He got me my first 7200 series device in 2005 and I have been HOOKED ever since! Of course I pay for my own phone now but me and him still talk about RIM. He was never a nerdy type, as he was a global VP. But I always got so much fascination and amazement about him having e-mail anywhere. of course it didn't work in the house as we lived in the country but it was so cool whenever we'd go to London. They were some fun times when it was a REAL status symbol to have a Blackberry. :D
