7290 Capabilities
Well, as I stated in my Intro thread, I've picked up a 7290 for the AT&T network. My question is does the fact that it's an older model prohibit me from doing things online that the newer ones? I am going to use it for: GMail, AIM, chat forums and automotive Web sites. It's got Version 4.02 software.
I guess what I'm asking is what are my limitations with this device? If I could go on YouTube, that would be cool, but not necessary.
Let me know. Thanks!

Turning up with a Blackberry 7290 and expecting it to stands it's own compared to the newer versions is a little like turning up for a polo match riding a dusty donkey. From a hardware/features perspective, the jump from the Blackberry 7290 to the next Blackberry, the 8700 was huge.
I used to have a BB7290, it's quad-band, and was the first Blackberry to offer Bluetooth support. The 7290 only has 32MB of internal memory, and of course no support for memory cards.
Perhaps you can go to beejive :: JiveTalk mobile messaging and attempt install/run the 30 day free trial.
JiveTalk™ is a multi-client instant messaging application for your mobile phone. It supports simultaneous connections to AIM, MSN, Yahoo!, GoogleTalk, ICQ, Jabber, and MySpace IM.
If this works on your 7290, think about purchasing it. You would have already added significant functionality over mere email and slow web browsing

Yeah, I know it's a stretch, but I don't need things like GPS, a camera, music/video, etc. I would just like to know if I can get my emails and chat without any problems. That's why I asked.

Yup, the BB7290 still remains a great device for email.

And going to certain web sites like Crackberry??
-
Sure, and pointing your Blackberry browser to http://www.crackberry.com/crackberry.jad to download and enable wap access to Crackberry.com will certainly make accessing and posting to Crackberry quicker and more pleasurable.
-
Download WAP access? What's that? And will that be needed for other Web sites as well?
-
Thats just a shortcut to crackberry.com on your home screen. I still have a 7290 and I'm keeping it as a backup device.

I just tried that link and it came back with an ERROR 404 Page not found.
