This misterios device was the company's first attempt at wireless paging. Very little information is found about it and is almost impossible to find one nowadays. I know they have one on display at the Blackberry Experience Centre in Toronto and here is a photo of it:

I don't know why it has 1998 above it since all the sources on the Internet say it was released in 1996. It was more as a prototype. Very few were made and that is why it is so hard to find one nowadays. Here is a photo of Jim Balsillie holding one in the early days of RIM.

Only a couple of photos are available online and those are of very bad quality.
There was one of these for sale about 4 years ago on ebay and I was silly enough not to buy it straight away, it got sold in a couple of hours for $250. Ever since then I had search guards ON non stop on ebay in hope to find another one but no luck at all.
Does anyone own this device? If yes, would you care to share some photos with us? I am a Blackberry collector and this one is like the holy grail. Any info at all on it would be helpful so please share it with us.

Thank you for your input! I visit your website quite often and I find it very helpful for my research. Shame that user guide link on the Wiki page is dead. That is alot of useful technical data you have found there. I did not know it had a NiCad internal battery. That would probably be dead after 21 years (hopefully not leaked). It is strange that so very few photos of the device survived. It seems it had a proper release and got the attention of the public. No one kept it a a drawer somewhere? Come on people!

I'm sorry, that's me being a smarta$$. OS 10.3.4 is the last rumored update for the very last BB10 OS phones that's never been seen.

Scott we talked over email a while back. If you are ever interested in selling it , set a price , working or not. . I'm interested. If you look over to the thread collectors corner I have a fairly large collection. Its one of the few items that I don't have in my collections.

You can find the collectors corner here . /general-blackberry-news-discussion-rumors-f2/honorary-carjackd-blackberry-crackberry-collectors-corner-1100980/

I'm pretty sure I know how one can get it working. It is a battery fault very common with the 950 too. Basically the internal battery does not have enough juice to boot up when the disposable battery is inserted so the device is stuck in an infinite loop. The disposable battery is supposed to recharge the internal when inserted but the device trying to boot up is draining it faster than it can be recharged. Also if the battery voltage drops below 2.5v it won't take charge at all. The solution to that, open up the device, disconnect the internal battery, check it's voltage with a multimeter. If the indication is 0V then that battery is useless now and needs to be replaced. If you get some voltage reading, you will need a 3v DC power output and connect the + and - to the appropriate pins of the battery. Leave for ~30 seconds and check the voltage again. If the showed value increased, repeat till you reach 3.5V. If the value stays low, you can try 4.5V DC on the battery to see if it keeps the power. The battery only needs a tiny amount of power at 3.5V to boot up, after that the disposable will continue the recharge.
