I'm not on O2 but I know someone who is and he's been waiting for it. Good news! Thanks for sharing!

So you don't have any feedback about O2's 4G service?

Not personally, he's outside of the area. Can't wait to see what he says though.

The 4G plans are no where near competitive enough to be worth signing up for - saying that, I still really want to enable it for my phone just to see what the speeds are like

They want to charge you 5/month just to enable 4G - this includes no extra data so you're stuck with whatever you have. In my opinion it should be the other way round and they should be paying us as we are essentially the guinea pigs for their new 4G infrastructure but whatever.

You can pay an extra 5/month to get 5GB data so to take advantage of the 4G you probably need to spend an extra 10/month for the extra data and 4G.

I think I'll wait a few months to see if they offer anything better.

P.S. The above is if you are already on a contract - the deals might be better if you are a new customer.

Thanks for the reply, 5 / month just to enable 4G is a bit much IMO, and I'd only be able to use it when I'm in London. That being said, how do you get it? Is it a bolt-on or do you have to ring 202?

It is a bit much especially as I read somewhere yesterday that the network "3" will enable 4G for free from December!

You can enable 4G online or over the phone.

    Online @ https://mymobile.o2.co.uk/paymonthly...seboltonstoadd - "4G access (5.00 per month)"

It sounds like you're not based in London and only travel for business/pleasure... perhaps it does not show for you because your o2 account address is not a London one.

That said, you should be able to get it activated over the phone anyway.

If you do activate, let us know how you get on with it and whether it's actually worth it!

Btw they do a 90 day 'happiness guarantee' which means you can easily cancel 4G within 90 days and they'll credit you back 15.

Got 4G in Liverpool on Friday, No extra cost still paying my 37 pound a month for Z10 and now I have an extra 1GB of data .

    Did a speed test

    4G is here - anyone got it?-img_20130976.png

So that's 27 times faster than my actual home broadband haha! Brilliant.

How did you activate it without increasing your monthly charge?

Think it was because I was already paying the 37 a month, When I asked if I can pay more and get even more data he said 2GB was the most I can have.

I'm on the same contract but my renewal is a month before yours.
Did you just ring them up asking to be upgraded to 4G then?

Went into the shop and asked about upgrading. At first he tried to make me pay the 400 for an early phone upgrade.

I said no, can't I just add 4G on top of my contract as a bolt on, So he had a check and I could, turns out it didn't cost any extra. He actually called it something specific but I can't remember the name sorry.
