No, they're selling devices on two Chinese carriers and are in negotiations with the largest, china mobile. So if they increase their market share that much on the two smaller carriers what do you suppose will happen when they land china mobile?

I still haven't seen any numbers for Lenovo. Do you have them?

China Mobile appears to already have significant iPhone base even before the official launch:
9to5Mac: China Mobile already has 42M iPhone users ahead of anticipated Apple deal, says Chinese tech site whose source was Sinatech

    From Sinatech:
"Up to now, China Mobile iPhone users in the network has reached 42 million, which has exceeded the sum of the U.S. AT & T and Verizon, the two operators sales. Please note that the key word here is that this 40 million users do not get a penny of subsidies. Imagine, if you move further out of subsidies, the market size will be considerable."

In each country, one device will be king.

For example, in Japan, its iPhone. In China, its Android. In Indonesia, its Blackberry.

Kantar isn't counting the tens of millions of phones that were there already are they?

Either way I take your point. The numbers are not terribly impressive by Apple standards. They're still numbers BlackBerry can only dream of though.

What? This is a comparison of market shares. Unless they've got a N/A in that column, of course they're counting previous phones already there.

That's not what marketshare is champ.
Marketshare is the percentage of phones sold during the period.

You're mixing it up with "installed base".

Thanks for the clarification Mikey. Let me rephrase, you be sure to let me know if I got it right this time:

Chinese carriers getting the iPhone, which some in this thread implied would grow the market share (and perhaps by extension the installed base) actually shrank the iPhone's market share in China.

Thanks! I knew there was something fishy there! You elucidate it quite nicely.

Not likely to hurt either. A lot of Chinese know better than to listen to their state-sponsored media about such things.

What a difference a year or so makes.
