Patent licensing company Wi-Lan Inc said it and BlackBerry Ltd struck a deal to dismiss all pending patent litigation between the companies.

The financial terms and other details were not disclosed.

Wi-Lan, which has a string of patent lawsuits against smartphone makers, alleged in December last year that BlackBerry - then known as Research In Motion Ltd - had infringed a patent related to Bluetooth technologies.

Wi-Lan had alleged that BlackBerry's PlayBook tablet and a wide range of its smartphones, including the Bold, Torch, Pearl and Storm, utilize technology that infringes its patent.

    First Kik now WiLan.

Seems BlackBerry is settling all pending law suits in preparation of a sale.

    The end is near.

My thoughts exactly, well, except for the end is near part. Seems like they are clearing the decks to make themselves a bit more attractive.

Yeah, but it would have been nice to see someone take this prolific patent troll down a peg.

He might have been worried about the "future" and being willing to take what he could get now. If the sales doesn't happen now or very soon... they don't have years at the rate revenue are falling. I think Fairfax will come up with the money, or even another buyer will appear before it gets to Bankruptcy... but for a "patent troll" it might be better to settle for 25% rather than waiting years to get a small payout from the Bankruptcy settlement.
