What would be the appropriate word for "putting money into a company that you believe in" ?
To me it's investing. Is that correct ?
If you have to ask you shouldn't be doing it.

If? I had about $15K to just "play" with, knowing it'd be like going to Las Vegas for the week, I'd buy about 5K shares of RIMM stock. I know it would NEVER peak again at $144.00, but If? BlackBerry OS 10 can gain some traction in 2013 and keep up a decent profit, it could? get up to $45.00-$50.00 a share by 2016?
    You must be joking right?

If you had $15k and you bought RIM on Monday, you would have $1,400 more in net worth right now.
    shares 2000 at $7.4 = $14,800
    2000 * $8.1 = $16,200

The analysis that it could hit $45 - $50 by 2016.

And if someone would have bought $15k worth of shares a year before, he would have lost close to 11K as of today.

This was more a vocabulary question than anything. Would be more efficient and less boring to read than "put money into a company you believe in". If you only consider the number of shares I hold ... well, you won't probably make a comment like this neither

Oh, btw, if you were trading, my may want to take some cash (again) :
bought @ $7.4 and today ("cat something" they say ...)

    But I keep long.

I am glad I averaged down at $7.50 . Well I doubled down to bring my average down to about $10. RIMM is a steal @ $15 let alone $7.50.It also seems that accumulation of RIMM shares have started by the big boys. The kid ifans can bash but apple was in a worse situation in the late 90's. Goodluck all

On one hand, the volume is huge and on the other hand there might be a bubble of hope. Just like before announcing the loss.

Really surprise that a "little" bad news could mean such a large dip.

What is going to happen at the next quarterly report!!

Why do you have to bash RIMM? If you had bought at $6.91 this morning, it would be at $6.97 now!!! Seems like the stock can only go up. Right? Hello?

I didn't read it as bashing, even if it enlighten a bad stock value ... "high risk-day traders who for in and out quickly" is appropriate; means the stock is moving fast and spiel can be done.

Stock will be in a storm for every little news ...
In the meantime, QNX announces 64% of market share (forecast: 11 million QNX powered cars in 2012), that could balance in a breathe the $150M for the case.
Also forgotten, the highly probable appeal that wil hold the procedure (and the cash) for 2-3 more years ...

Does QNX make any money from this? They can't be doing this for free, right?

Do we know how much they makes of the automobile systems?

At the time of the acquisition two years ago, QNX revenue was $40m a year. Does anyone have a more updated number?

Even if it has doubled in the past two years -- and that's probably being generous --, the revenue from automobiles sounds like it's inconsequential to RIM's overall financials.

Well, they keep silent about numbers : " Kuhn did not say what QNX sales are. Its results are consolidated with those of RIM" (QNX revs up in-car technology) but I believe a $15-20 range per license is somehow tangible ...

I'm wondering that as the last revenue figures (revenue not profit) were $40 million - using the figure of $15-20 per license, their revenue must be in the hundreds of millions if not billions and that would be highly visible on the RIM balance sheet and it's not.

Back of the napkin value is about 7.02. RIMM is at that now. A push into the $6 range or below is going to attract allot of unwanted attention. If $5 comes into the sight lines, I believe a decent offer will start an ugly proxy fight. No way the BOD can stand up against a $10/$12 offer.
