"About halfway through his FedTalks presentation, Halvorsen held up his personal mobile device. ?We?re just about ready to tell everybody you can have one of these,? he said. ?This is still a Blackberry, still a government-provided device, but now I have personal space on this. I have my personal email, I have personal apps. One device integrated with the personal side of the business. That?s a big thing for us to do because I think it?s an admission that our workforce, both civilian and military ? particularly the younger part of our workforce ? is demanding different things. We?ve got to accommodate that somewhat.?

    bingo.

Hopefully each department doesn't get options as to what devices manufacturer they want. I say that because it sounds like they have some flexibility in what cloud services they go with as long as it meets the criteria.

My son had been working for a government contractor developing the security systems for just such an environment, and the work was progressing well. However, it will take an adjustment by the users to get used to a new protocol. Most of the users have no idea what "the cloud" really is that to really start the ball rolling is going to require a deep education program, which the government excels at. And the data security that's being developed starts at the individual user and progresses all the way to the cloud storage and back. the real objective is to create a proactive environment, not a reactive environment.

Change is coming, and Blackberry is well positioned to take advantage of it.

You missed the statement: "we're just about ready to give everyone one of these. It's still a Blackberry, but...." Terry Halvorsen was the Navy's CIO, and in the Navy, it's salute and say "Aye, Aye, Sir!" This is what's going to happen. This guy has big stroke, and he knows it. BB10 going big now, especially with BES12. This will be a big revenue source for BBRY.

Well one thing is for sure, if you are trying to save money buying BlackBerry instead of the competition is a great start as their phones are very competitively priced.

I agree CherokeeMarty, he was holding a Z30 during the presentation. I believe that they will stick with the Passport, Z30 and Classic for the most demanding secured environment. No if or buts!
