I am 40. For the most part, I also don't think the Palm brand is going to do much, but some of the nostalgia will get people who remember it to take a look, and perhaps get reviewers to give it a bit more credibility which is really how most people are influenced.
Yeah I don't see how it would lend any credibility to the device from a reviewer when there is no Palm except for the name. With BlackBerry at least they are developing their own Android tweaks. This would just be an Android phone with the name Palm on it made by TCL.

I loved my Palm V. It was the coolest gadget around.

    Last millennium.

But they had this great feature where you could beam messages to another Palm V with infrared. This was obviously before text messaging. A friend and I who both had them were making presentations and in discussions as part of one team to a couple venture capitalists at the Back Bay Harvard Club. During this tense meeting I see my friend furiously scribbling on his Palm V and nodding to me. I think he’s going to send me some important message about the negotiations so I surreptitiously hold my Palm to where he can beam the message. It works, I get it, and it’s an absolutely hysterical dirty joke.

When a corporation starts looking for investment that is usually a sign that they are planning on expansion. Stock can always be bought back later.
    Agree
Financially, raising cash is usually a sign of an upcoming expansion. The only but here is that usually you raise it through bank loans and other financial instruments to retain control of the stock & decision making. Letting others on your board is OK if these new guys bring in additional expertise necessary for expansion

Let me guess, there is clearly no connection to Kevin presenting the Keyone....

Depends on what condition the company is in to begin with. Seeing that the company's valuation has dropped by HK $6 Billion.... doubt this is about growth or expansion.

TCL are onto something big here.

BlackBerry has always been very popular, even among non BlackBerry owners many of them having used BlackBerry's from time to time.

Now that BlackBerry is on Android in it's own Android and on other Androids, IOS and now Windows as well as Mac. (At least they will be on, all of them and they are coming to other variants of linux.)

The Blackberry branded phones are taking off like rockets, you go to most of the Independent stockists and ask, they can't get enough of them to satisfy demand.
The big name players are desperately trying to keep the old Blackberry name out of the shops, but then who's going to pay for display stand in the likes of O2 Vodafone T-Mobile Orange EE.

If they have any sense they won't pay these companies, who are in the market to sell phones.

Instead these companies just operate as display stands that do not sell phones.

Carphone Warehouse is learning that it's phone sales have slackened, because people are buying BlackBerry KeyOne and the KeyOne Black and very shortly when they can get their hands on the new addition it's just go to take of.
There are a lot of people that prefer to have a pocket computer in one pocket and a mobile phone in the other, only connecting the two when they need to.
So having Wi-fi and Bluetooth built into the pocket computers with no mobile phone on board potentially have a vast market and it could see the smartphone devastated. Both palm and Psion sell very well in the second hand market so don't run them down.
Updated versions of The Palm Pilot and subsequent models and updated versions of the 3MX both with the green screens and with colour screens will still sell like hotcakes.

Both the Palm and the psion series fell away in general use because the software was no longer updated.

Google Android have taken this lesson on board with the Linux authorities and line-ups colonel's are now extended to 6 years instead of 2 years.

Security updates as a consequence will be push through to the six year Mark but the choice to upgrade to a different Android version is left largely with the phone producers and in the latter part the end users.
Taking off like rockets? Lol. Thanks for the laugh. I really needed one today. These days, the only time BlackBerry phones take off like rockets is when someone throws them against the wall and buy Samsung instead.

I think the writing is more than visible on the wall. Though I'm and have been a loyal user of BlackBerry for over a decade I cannot see TCL with BlackBerry licence branded phones around in 3 years time unless for a miracle game changer.

I think TCL was and is a grave mistake for BlackBerry in my humble opinion.

On the other hand I think the Indians in India with BlackBerry may be interesting.

Why not? What have you seen that would indicate they are not in it for the foreseeable future?

What exclusive metrics do you have in your possession that would lead you to believe this?

Also, this is pretty simple. They are losing money so they sold off a chunk of the company to get some cash influx.
Yes, TCL's smartphone business is struggling but their total business overall has grown revenue each year since at least 2009.

So BlackBerry would have been better off shuttering BlackBerry Android instead of monetizing it through licencing?

Why? They don't make hardware anymore. People and infrastructure is gone.

I didn’t take as negative to the Palm Vs. Maybe to my age but let’s not talk about that now. I think the Palm Vs may have been the first “cool” or “sexy” PDA. They really were great.

And they were after 8-tracks but probably just before mp3s became popular and just before the iPod.
