Interesting perspective when we all discuss about BlackBerry low/mid/high end devices strategy.

According to Ericsson Mobility Report, smartphones accounted for 60% of mobile phones sold in Q4 2013.

Last update Mobility Report Ericsson just highlight the continued rapid growth of the use of smartphones and connectivity. In the fourth quarter of 2013, there were 109 million new mobile subscriptions. The number of mobile subscriptions now reached 6.7 billion. 40 million new 4G/LTE subscriptions were recorded during the fourth quarter of 2013.

The report shows that nearly 60% of all mobile phones sold in the fourth quarter of 2013 were smartphones, against 45% in the fourth quarter of 2012. The data traffic increased meanwhile 70%.
my add : Approx 40% new subscriptions were LTE/4G ...

    Food for thoughts:

The article says nothing of significance apart from more wireless carriers are rolling out 4G/LTE network infrastructure which obviously leads consumers to purchase smartphones capable of exploiting the higher speeds offered by these networks. Why would someone buy a 2G smartphone when they live in an area with 4G service?
