From Michael Clewley Channel: it simulates the selection with the BBOS trackpad. Simply hold the shift button and drag and drop the cursor to select easily text everywhere!
Available on 10.2.1 so do not try it on older version.. it will not work!

"Running Shift" features BB10 - for the trackpad lovers!!-running-shift.png

    EDIT:

After all the comments I am still NOT sure if this feature was present also on 10.2.0.429.
Anyway the important thing is that it is THERE now. I find it EXTREMELY USEFUL and very few users are aware of that possibility so I am glad to share!!!

I agree but... this implementation is the closest thing to a real trackpad that I have ever seen on ANY touchscreen device... It works extremely well and it is nice to see that they have spent time in developing the feature... specifically to answer the needs of power users. You will not see the trackpad on BB10 but sincerely I miss it less and less especially with this on board on the 10.2.1

Glad to hear that... I was just reporting Michael Clewley reported.. and he said it is a new feature implemented on 10.2.1. I am talking about selecting text just dragging the cursor while you hold the shift button, not simply move the cursor clicking on it (this feature was available since 10.1 if i remember well). Anyway if this works on 10.2.0 as I told you.. even better!

I cannot test it.. already on 10.2.1 . Sincerely I do not remember that feature on 10.2.0 but some people is posting that they are able to do also with that OS (I do not know however if they understood exactly that this is a faster way to select test and not simply the old "tap and select the test"). If you have 10.2.0 try it (but i do not think it will work there.. or Micheal Clewley posted something incorrect... . Click between any editable word to let the cursor (circle) appear. At that point if you hold the shift keys you can move the circle around to select really quickly the text.

I had no idea this existed until I saw Michael Clewley's BBM Channel post (have I mentioned that I love BBM Channels?)

This seriously makes me think BlackBerry reads these forums. I, along with others, had kind of dreamed of this feature. I know I've written about it on here, and others liked the idea, especially those of us who had come from devices with the trackpad, where it was just so easy to copy and paste text.

This is one reason why I still like physical qwerty keyboards, and this is an example of how a physical keyboard can be intertwined with the swipe gestures of BB10.

I like finding out about these little features that really help me "get things done." Not that what I have to get done is important, but even if it's just a text or something.

    Thanks for listening, BlackBerry!
