RIM Spent $400K Lobbying in 2007

WASHINGTON - Research In Motion Ltd., which makes the BlackBerry e-mail device, spent $400,000 in the first half of 2007 to lobby the federal government, according to a disclosure form.

The Canada-based company lobbied on patent legislation and on regulatory rules to make more digital wireless handsets accessible to consumers with hearing disabilities, according to the form posted online Tuesday by the Senate's public records office.

In addition to Congress, the company also lobbied the Federal Communications Commission.

Under a federal law enacted in 1995, lobbyists are required to disclose activities that could influence members of the executive and legislative branches. They must register with Congress within 45 days of being hired or engaging in lobbying.

That doesn't seem like a lot, in the grand scheme of things.

HAHA..not sure if it's USD or Canadian...these days the currencies are pretty close.

$400k really doesn't seem like a lot compared to the HUNDREDS of MILLIONS they had to pay out in the past year to settle law suits.
