We all know that the latest edition of iOS is not innovative. Apple choose to punt when they should done something substantive.

The Q10's keyboard is the absolute best. I don't know how it could get any better. Glad to see it on this list.

I agree about not having an order. It's just overly dramatic to have a ranking.

I'd say that the reasons are so-so. Not bad, not great. For e.g., The Moto X is only marginally innovative for its notifications and made-to-order designs, but its true innovative strength is in the internal processor architecture that enables a low-power processor to be always on, and listening.

Most tech articles today are poorly written though, so I wouldn't have expected much anyway.

Much better than being on one of those "worst" lists.

Placing in the top 10 is an accomplishment. I'm sure there are many devices and/or OEM's that wouldn't be thrilled to find they didn't even make the list.

I like it. Good unbiased look at current innovation. An absolute bonus to see a BB product on the list. Now combine the best of all these into a single product

The list is meaningless. How Sony Xperia Z beat Apple with a cliche feature such as "water resistance" that appears in a number of smartphones from other OEMs when the fingerprint scanner barely appeared at all is beyond me. The later into the list, the more ridiculous it gets with things like the Galaxy S 4 being really innovative for its software. (Let's just ignore all the software features/gimmicks all the other OEMs put in.) The HTC made the list for something as superficial as being "beautiful"?

There is absolutely no "innovation" for the smartphones ranked #1 to #6 through the list. This article shows how overused and pointless this buzzword has become. The Q10, Lumia 1020, and the iPhone 5S are the only phones that even offer relevant, new features and I would hardly pin them as "innovative".

The list confuses 'invention' with 'innovation' - without societal impact or replication by competition (adaption/adoption) you don't have an innovation.

Hardly a buzzword, innovation has had a well-defined and understood meaning for at least two hundreds years.

Strongly disagree. Innovation can be scientific, mathematical, logistical, algorithmic, design-focused, technological, political, social, artistic, etc., etc., etc. The Latin root "innovare" merely means "to alter, renew, restore, and so on."

Societal impact or widespread replication is by no means a necessary criterion for something to be considered innovative.

The list is not bad but I think they need to look deeper in innovation some of these phones shouldn't have been on there

I see. In that case, the word you are looking for is probably closer to "disruptive" than "innovative".

I just can't believe HTC won based on looks and nothing else. I wouldn't have rated it number one because of that. I would have placed the LG or Nexus #1 based on innovation. HTCs aluminum design has been done before, by the device that is last on the list.

If it's based off looks IMO 5S should have been number one. The foundation of the list is odd though. You have the iPhone at number 10 just because it was a refresh, even though it offers 2 hardware features no other device on that list offers, yet the Q10 scored higher just because it is the only smartphone with a great keyboard?

    Kinda odd.

Not really, like most other mainstream management academics I would see the two as interconnected concepts not separate.
