Considering that's how cesc has BES encryption keys and can spy on anyone using a BlackBerry that would be a pretty big advantage for Canada to give up

They would "consider" the security implications with any sale so this isn't news.

Mr. de Bever says time is wasting.

The shame in all this is that this is a huge distraction for BlackBerry itself, he said. This company, when you really look at the state its in, it will be losing ground if this doesnt get settled quickly. So anything thats going to happen better happen quickly, because value is being destroyed.
Total agree, anyone - Government / Enterprise / Big or Small Business, that haven't even considers the implications of BlackBerry not being there is 6 months is irresponsible. And once they LOOK at other solutions, some that don't require the level of security that BB offers... are going to leave, no matter what happen.

As for BlackBerry being a "national security issue"... so what? Is the Canadian Government going to start subsiding operations at BB? Is the Canadian Government going to buy out BlackBerry and operate it in house? It's not just the Canadian Government that will have a problem.... maybe this should be brought to the attention of the UN?

You can be concerned about something, and still not be in a position to change anything about it.

No the Harper Government, not to be confused with the Government of Canada, is reactivating the "Granny Brigade" for spy duty. After all who'd suspect a kindly elderly lady carrying a hot apple pie to be up to nefarious stuff like listening to your telephone conversations and reading for email and social media postings and "friends". Unfortunately, the "Granny Brigade" will be funded with money originally allocated to the Canadian Rangers patrolling Canada's Arctic. Oh well, those polar bears will keep the Russians and Americans from invading. Plus Santa Claus regularly patrols the skies while training his reindeer.
