I read OS 10.4 will be released Q3, with the Z50 and the Slider.

Neat. Sure would be nice if Sprint pushed OS 10.3 for our Q10s before that happened.

    Adding my $0.02...

Just thinking about Chens cryptic statement about apps and we have an idea for that I think BlackBerrys going to address limitations in the Android Runtime that prevent any GPS dependent apps from running, and theyll update it to support Lollipop. Kinda like how you can install Gapps on your Cyanogen or Amazon Fire device, without it being officially supported (and running afoul of Googles OHA). That way any enthusiasts / tinkerers like us can enjoy full Android compatibility.

On the native front, I think theyre going to continue to build out touch capacitive PKB support to make it more and more like a trackpad that supports gestures across the board. And build in native IFTT / geofencing to automate radios, etc for further enhance productivity / battery savings.

It's an ok idea, but will it actually help sell more phones to consumers or even enterprises? The last to Android stunts from BB (10.2.1 with the ability to install APKs and 10.3 with the amazon appstore) weren't particularry successful.

I don't think it would lead to a large bump in sales, no. But if it got decent media play it could help stem the bleed while they work on growing out software and refurbishing their image as a company.

There will be no more devices with the car moniker type naming, like Z10, Q50 or whatever. That was Thorsten Heins naming, as you might have noticed, under Chen, the names are quiet stupider. That's why Heins sponsored a Formula 1 racing team, he had go fulfill his ego.

    Thorsten Heins
    Z10
    Z30
    Q5
    Q10

    John Chen
    Passport
    Classic
    Leap
Passport & leap are Thor devices. Not sure about the classic. But guessing by speed of release probably a Thor device.

Chen aint made ****. He's been all software ideas.

I don't know if there will be a 10.4. Why? 10.3.2 was just pushed to unlocked devices. Leaks of the next OS have always been out before the release of the current one. Well where are the 10.4 leaks? I haven't heard of any. If someone has please enlighten us. There is nothing in the developer section of future functions. 10.3.2 might be End of Line for BB10. Maybe we'll know more at the call, although they won't announce it until they have the next solution ready for release because it will kill off all existing sales and likely cause many Enterprise clients to bail too.

That 10.3.2 release was not a fully intentional one. 10.4 will come

You can't just replace the kernel. QNX has a microkernel and Linux is monolithic, and architecturally it's quite different. If they went full Android with the BlackBerry Experience Suite, it wouldn't be called 10.4. It wouldn't be BB10 at all.

If there is a 10.4, it'll have an updated QNX OS kernel. I think they'll utilize the QNX hypervisor and the Android runtime will be completely replaced with a full Android OS that is tightly integrated with the BB10 OS UI layer. I think this will result in better Android support, yet allow BB10 native apps to still work. Other Android manufacturers that don't include Google Player Services don't prevent its installation, so I think if BB utilized a setup like this they could get away with not including artificial restrictions on installing GPS. At the same time, they could still include Amazon support out of the box.

Well, since Apple is buying BlackBerry, and part of the diligence by Apple was to get some insight into BB's short term plans, the source of the 10.4 OS release schedule rumour was obviously an Apple employee being overheard at WWDC.

If they can implement Hypervisor that would be the way to go but it'd leave out alot of phones. Would be really surprised if they can fit a solution under 2GB of RAM.

You are probably right, but if they strip out the Android runtime from the base BB10, that'd help. They've already removed Air, so that helps somewhat.

BB cannot go full Android. If they were to go full Android, it'd be catastrophic. What would there be to differentiate themselves from Samsung? In the world of Android, Samsung is king.

Also, from a security standpoint, things will be inherently less secure, as Android has way way way too many vulnerabilities discovered every month or so. BB10 being made in house and with QNX makes them virtually impossible to root or breach.

Never know. Can be either 10.4 (a BlackBerry software based on android like Amazon is)
Or can be Android Lollipop 5.0 or
Android M that's due out this fall, or
    Joining Samsung with making Tizen

Well, my daddy works at Nintendo and he told me that Nintendo is making a bid for BlackBerry.

Apparently they want to stop making games and go into software and enterprise.

    Go figure.

They also promised to update all current BB10 devices to NintenOS 01. Codenamed Zelda.
