So David is out to head security at Google, and Alex Manea as the new CSO:

What are the thoughts or knowledge about why this has happened and how it will impact BlackBerry going forward?

Looking at Alex's LinkedIn profile, he has been around BlackBerry for a while now and has the recommendations of David and others. He holds a number of patents related to security, but I am always concerned when we lose top talent for another competitor. Google Android is a competitor to BlackBerry in the auto and in the OS. If Android is made BlackBerry "Secure" without BlackBerry, what does BlackBerry have to set itself apart?

For sure. We could see this as the state to a potential buyout as well?

David was an excellent choice by Chen and he served BlackBerry well. No doubt he got a sweet deal from Google and it is well deserved. Google will be a bigger challenge for David as security is at best an after thought and is seen within the company as boring and dull. This starkly contrasts BlackBerry when David focus were perfectly aligned with Chen's interests.

But given recent events, security has risen to the top of the tech agenda and well Google will be shut out of the next tech revolution (eg. IOT) unless they get their act together. At the end of the day, I'm not Google can change their DNA. They are in essence an advertisement company who develops free services to enhance their advertising revenue. When Google moves away from this core focus, they routinely fail to deliver.

While David was an excellent employee, remember he was supported by arguably the best security team in tech. That is the BlackBerry is today.
