John Sculley, he's most famous for firing Steve Jobs
He didn't really fire him. Jobs was intolerable to work with and agreed to leave Apple back in 1985.

Let's see.... sunny breezy California.... or freeze your arse off cold Ontario for the winter...... Easy decision.
It's a tough decision if I'd prefer playing Golf in California, or if I'd rather go heliskiing.
    Hmmm....

    Hence the term "interim CEO".
Yes, remember Steve Jobs was an interim CEO (iCEO at one time, until he went full time.
Anyone would be so much better than Heins & Co. anyway.

He should stay in the country where BB needs the business. In this day and age, everything can be done through audio/video conferences and he can visit Waterloo at any time via the airlines. BB is global, so it shouldn't matter where he resides as long as he can get the job done.

Yes, the life is easy down there.
I once lived in San Jose, just before it started shaping up to be the Silicon Valley. The area was rather a sleepy orchard region.
Did not have to spend much for clothing, like a hell in Canada.
Stroll lazily on the street with barefoot under sunny sky with a T-shirts and a shorts, get tired, find a bench in a nice green park, lie down,
and take a nice afternoon doze with your stupid mouth wide open.
Banana drops into your open mouth, wake up, and your meal for the day is over.

What a nice, easy-lazy life it was.

I do not blame John if he wishes to avoid staying in a small-town Waterloo, LOL

I actually think that this is not a bad thing at all. Yeah, down the road I think that BlackBerry will want and need a CEO who will be in KW.

But, the reality is that BlackBerry is hurting seriously in the USA - by far the most important smartphone market. I think having someone who is in that market full time will allow for BlackBerry to make the necessary changes for a breakthrough in the USA.

I mean, walking through Berkley or any other California location a person is only going to be seeing androids and iphones. That is far different than Waterloo.

But, the reality is that for BlackBerry to survive it needs to make inroads into this market. Or fold up shop and only offer enterprise security solutions. For survival, they have to find a way to make inroads. Thus, I do not think it is a bad idea to have the ceo getting hit in the face on a daily basis by this reality.

    To annihilate BBRY LOL.

Think about it: an Android guy beating BBRY with a legacy BBOS device. Android users would spring to buy him a few more...

Expressing an opinion different to yours doesn't make anyone a hater.
How about you grow up and respect people?

Blind loyalty to any brand or company is unhealthy.

You didn't know there is an enthusiasm threshold that has to be met to be listed as a "lover?" Seriously. It's a BBRY faithfulness serum administered by CB forumites.

So I wonder what to make of the fact that the new CEO plans on staying in California and maintaining his other positions. This at least according to one news report.

Sounds like he doesn't plan on having a long term as CEO and the search for a more permanent executive solution is under way. I wonder then how much leeway that new CEO will have in terms of setting the strategic direction for BlackBerry.

Interesting optics for employees and the public alike.

John Chen gets to commute to/from Waterloo via corporate jet for as long as he's interim CEO.
That's what the 1 billion Fairfax dollars is paying for
