This is very interesting development and could turn out good. At this point I would rather see Mike to Thorsten at the helm. Thorsten is probably good at efficiency and cutting cost, but that's about it. The BlackBerry saga is addicting.

I'm not much of a 'news/rumors' post writer, but I've been watching and waiting to see what is going to happen. This news is the best news I've heard regarding the future of Blackberry.

Users would like to believe this could be a Steve Jobs back from the ashes potential. This is more like Wozniak taking back the company as Jobs is first and foremost a sales & marketing guru while Lazardis to me is more like the former.

After listening to Chris U on Vector 14 re: his points about the enterprise market vanishing due to all smartphones filling the need I'm fairly convinced the handset market for BB is over......

    Unless...........
He also wrote that BB needs to get handsets out to the masses for around $350 instead of $700. This may save the company and allow a slow but steady rebuild.

Re MIke L should he come back I hope he's learned the lessons of other great CEOs and surrounds himself with REALLY great people AND listens to their advice.

It will not happen if Mike can get other parties to back him.

I really don't want him back in charge. It was only by accident that they ended up in the consumer market and it isn't going to happen again. They need to go private and have a fresh new ceo from a relatively new tech company. In fact maybe bring over the creator of TAT.

    Read the 13D

They each own around 40 million shares or 8%

Together, with a few trusts they own ( for the kids probably) they own 20%

The 8% has been widely reported but is incorrect.

    This is a big deal!
If this is true then they need LESS money than prem, by about 10%... plus they can low ball at $7 if prem doesn't get his $9, meaning only a couple billion, with 2.5 in the bank.

This might actually work (good or not)

With all of my country's NSA scandals, think American companies could be seen as a threat?

    Posted via CB10
The Canadian equivalent, CSEC, works hand in hand with the NSA right now, a US company would likely be approved without any issues.

And the Canadian scandals are just starting to be revealed, they are as bad as the NSA.

I would like to think he's learned from his mistakes and understands the mobile marketplace a lot better than he once did.

Very good news indeed. Here's a guy that was part of the original vision...seeing his creation in trouble. I like it, and I hope he is clued in to the very different nature of mobile computing today as what was the norm in 2002 ... If so, this is extremely exciting news ... god knows we all could use something completely 100% positive happening - right now.!

Unless the new owner wants to chop Blackberry up and sell its parts (which I'm assuming you don't want), the new owner will need that 2.6 billion to turnaround the company. Probably they will need a lot more

I don't think it's silly at all. Some people are massively invested in their favorite football team. How often do people say 'it's just a game'. People are massively invested in their cars. Do people tell Jay Leno 'it's just a Chevy'. People are massively invested in their motorcycles, would you walk up to a Hells Angel and say 'it's just a bike'?

I may watch a football game every now and then, my car is just my transportation, I don't ride a motorcycle because I'm a clutz and would die. But I'm on my phone every hour of the day. Read CB like it's a sports page in the newspaper. My phone is my hobby, yet I'm constantly reading 'it's just a phone'. Yes it is just a phone, but it's sonething I enjoy and care about. Just as much as someone cares about their fave team or the mode of transportation they've named after some girl. So if we're here on a Web page devoted to these phones, don't feel silly about it. Just know that some of these people that are telling us it's just phones are probably just waiting until they can start working on their scrapbook again.... and I find that silly.
