This Canadian provincial government currently has 15,000 BlackBerrys. A pilot of BB10 has been going in for the past several months. A soft launch has been going on since November 12 and will continue until February 1, 2014. Full launch occurs on February 1, 2014. Things take time in government.

Good to hear! Pretty much any large organization is going to take their time on changing technologies. One of the big concerns with any now OS is companies don't like being beta testers with the rank and file - it cuts down on productivity and cost more in tech support. Some business will take a year or more before moving on to the newest version of Windows (how many are STILL using XP).

Let how that with a more mature version of BES10 coming and with BB10.2, and with Chen seeming to have long term goals.... more of those "test beds" will pull the trigger and start buying products.

It's got to be Ontario. We would get raked over the coals if we went with anything else.

The other question is there any Canadian Province not using BlackBerry and transitioning to BB10? I suspect they all use it or in the process of upgrading.

All news is a rumor until proven true or false (just being, well you know)

As for this, I am not terribly surprised, that isn't that large a number of devices. Heck, DoD is deploying 10k by end of year, Army wants an additional 90k after that. They are also deploying the Fixmo solution for several hundred thousand other devices. Canadian federal government has been using BES10 since this time last year (I know, I have some of their draft documents they shared).

Haha I know what you mean. I guess I'm just looking for something to pick BB up a bit.

"Some dude on the internetz said"
Doesn't hold as much weight as a report from a reputable source.

Hmm .. .I think we have a 33.333% chance of getting it. There are really only 3 "large Canadian provinces". So, I assume it has to be BC, Ontario or Quebec. Sorry Alberta ... you aren't in the big leagues yet. haha ... j/k

Seems like the same is true for the bad news as well. Didn't BlackBerry ditch handsets AND go belly up like two years ago?

Nfld's land mass is pretty huge as well, takes 12 hours to drive straight across it...being the 2nd largest Island n earth and all.

Only if you seek out the absolute most negative articles available. I don't believe I've ever seen someone claim that BB is officially out of the handset business or belt up, even if there are articles predicting it will happen.

I know that I work in public office in Ontario and we are currently piloting bb10. Even my executive director asked which of the two (z10 or q10) he should use. I told him that I prefer screen retail space so I use the z10, but if battery is what he needs then the q would be a better choice. My company employs approximately 5000 across Ontario so not sure if the number is collective of several offices. But definitely, my company is going towards that direction.

They have committed to the handset business, unfortunately that is the single part of their business that is hurting the most.
