I don't understand how people always seem to go to other site's find links on things that are sourced from here and come back here and post a thread lol

If that's the case then Blackberry should make a website where it displays the trusted sources. Or an application for that matter. Like a tester: application's security confirmed.

    Something like that

Thanks, not very straightforward for the normal consumer though.

Has anyone tried to install an apk directly? Has anyone purchased an apk from the play store etc and successfully installed the app?

    We need to know!

As I'm not familiar with android what list of permissions could an app request in theory as I don't download ports as I don't like the accept all policy they have which I assume we will have with any android and I want to keep my phone as secure as possible?

On a similar note, how can we be sure the apps we are downloading are official apps if they aren't from the playstore and that they aren't doing things they shouldn't be, e.g malware?

Up until the the Galaxy3, Samsung was said to have utilised an implementation of the Core which had made the devices more prone to certain exploits in some cases.

The QNX Core of BB10 should block the access of programs (or malware) into areas of the device's OS where these permissions haven't been specifically granted. (ie: an eBook reader reading your Address Book etc..)
I hope the this link can explain it more clearly than I can:

Edit: But to address your question of where to source legitimate Apps and the permission requests you may or may not be presented with, all I can say, is that I hope they are hosted on a reputable site and that we have the same degree of permission control that we currently enjoy with our native Apps.
