Yep. Interesting how despite all the Uncarrier efforts, the DT overlords are so willing to dump their US venture. It's like they don't believe in TMO US' ability to be a profitable venture

If it keeps a fourth player in the market and they put pressure on VZW and AT&T... I'm all for it.

    too bad...
Iliad is the french carrier Free who made a very aggressive campaign some years ago telling carriers were robbing their clients (with some arguments like paying a forfait for 100 sms is acting like a thief as we can't even put a price on a SMS as it is derisory).
They launched a forfait at 2 euro (2.70$) for 2 hours of voice (120 minutes) to landline and mobile in France (also for Guadeloupe, Guyane franaise, Martinique, Mayotte, Runion), and to mobiles in USA (+ Alaska et Hawa), Canada, China and other 91 destinationsl (voir la liste complte ci-dessous).
They also have a forfait at 19.99 Euro (27$) including: 20GB of internet, illimited SMS and MMS, free access to wifi on Free network (as their costumers who have a "Free Box for internet at home let other Free users access internet for Free), illimited International calls to mobile phones (to Alaska, Canada, Hawa, China and USA)
They really are kicking the telecom hornet' nest in France and already made other carriers adjust their price.

    Yes.
They were the first to adopt that strategy and people were to pay their device themself (even if there also was a plan for iphones if i am not wrong...).
But in the long run you really save a lot of money (as subsidised phones cost a lot more in a 2-3 year contract)
They also let their customers leave their plan at any time (so you could have a Free forfait for 1 or 2 months and go back to your carrier without any fee for leaving)
Xavier Niel, founder of Iliad and Free (you'll probably dig the "perfect english with a little french accent" )

What? T-Mobile already became profitable just this quarter.

Yes, but because of a spectrum swap:

The wireless carrier swung to a second-quarter profit of $391 million, or 48 cents a share, helped by a 90-cent gain from a spectrum licensing deal with Verizon Wireless. Excluding the item, T-Mobile would have posted a loss.
If BB's profit as attributed to selling real estate is looked down upon, this should be too.
