Does any one know if RIM is going to make another BB without a camera? I am a fire inspector on a Navy base that does not allow camera phones.

I can't find it now, of course, but I have seen a how to on removing the camera. Of course that will void your warranty.

I thought there were plans for this. After all there is a large market for BES users whose occupations do not allow camera phones. I thought I heard it for something coming soon. Have to get someone else to confirm which but if I'm not mistaken we did get some pretty good info of such a device.

9630 (coming out to verizon and sprint) will eventually be available without a camera, not sure if it will initially though.

With OPs situation, disabled doesn't cut it, phone can't have a camera, period.

Next time can the OP be a little more specific in the title? You might get more views along with more replies if people knew what the thread was about when they are scanning the titles.

The camera can be disabled but I would have to have the phone tested to prove it. It sucks working on a navy base. There aint that many phones out there that are good without a camera. So far the best one I found is my BB 8830. If verzion does come out with a new one and with them merging with Alltel, I should be fine in the future.

May I ask why you can't have a camera phone? I know a few people in the military (Navy included) that have no problem with having their camera phones on base.

It's for security reason. They don't want you taking pictures of secret stuff.

The reason I can't have a camera is because I "might" take a picture of a missile or secret material. Its sucks but it is part of the job.

Couldn't you just get a full battery cover for it, and disable it? I understand the situation, my ex had the same problem with his phone (not a bb, but still).... or, the almighty suggestion of duct tape/tape over the camera hole... hmm.. :P

I have no doubts more models will be available without a camera. I think there was even a version of the Bold that came out in Japan without a camera, so it is quite possible to see an 89xx or 96xx series san camera in the future.

I think RIM knows a good number of their customers are military (or civilian workers on bases) and government, and certainly they will continue to make models, or versions without cameras.

I love my 8830. I recently upgraded to v.4.5. I now have MMS which is something I missed. I was just wondering if RIM was going to make another phone without a camera.
