I deleted the app a week ago, even though I am from the USA, it pisses off that a Canadian news company can't even support a iconic Canadian company like BlackBerry, it's a dam shame.

If the CBC was a private business, I would have no problem with their dropping support for a BlackBerry app.

This is the one showstopper for me.
    It is taxpayer funded.

    This is the actual mandate:
    "...the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation, as the national public broadcaster, should provide radio and television services incorporating a wide range of programming that informs, enlightens and entertains;
...the programming provided by the Corporation should:
be predominantly and distinctively Canadian, reflect Canada and its regions to national and regional audiences, while serving the special needs of those regions,
actively contribute to the flow and exchange of cultural expression,
be in English and in French, reflecting the different needs and circumstances of each official language community, including the particular needs and circumstances of English and French linguistic minorities,
strive to be of equivalent quality in English and French,
contribute to shared national consciousness and identity,
be made available throughout Canada by the most appropriate and efficient means and as resources become available for the purpose, and
reflect the multicultural and multiracial nature of Canada.

It obviously can be argued on not sides as to whether or not they should make a bb10 app according to their mandate. However, bb10 has a higher market share in Canada than most posters are giving it credit for. It's not like it's. 5% up here. I see bb10 phones everywhere.

They do have a BlackBerry 10 app. They are ending support for it while recently enhancing the android and apple apps.

Most Canadian taxpayers don't have use for a BB10 app. This how a democracy works.........

You obviously don't know much about Canadian politics do you?

Minority groups are included in public policy in Canada as they should be.

Who said they weren't. But in a democracy the majority rules. 99 % of taxpaying citizens don't need their tax dollars wasted on an expense to appease 1% of the populace. Perhaps its math and common sense you don't know much about.

It was you whom said they weren't.

My math skills actually quite fine, but nice try.

If it was simply majority rules, there would be almost no social programs in Canadian society and.... well...they would have to drop the iOS app as well.

Clearly you understand what a majority is because it couldn't consist of several significant groups vs the marginalized and insignificant groups.

I guess a billion iOS devices shipped wouldn't count as part of the majority.

And perhaps you can show me where in my initial post I said anything about the minority whatsoever. Your as good at identifying what I "said" as you as are with what Chen "said" to congress. You should focus on the words that are actually written.

Except not all tax paying Canadians own cell phones. They all contribute to the CBC though.

I thought I was being generous at the 1% who might have use for a bb10 app.

Well I would agree except the poll posted was not a poll of taxpayers so it wasn't directly on point.

But I would agree that the majority may own a cell phone since a majority is 51% or more.

Using the poll posted above, 86% of those cell owners have no need for a BB10 app. That would be considered a significant majority.

Who cares, CBC bashes BlackBerry they censor the news, $1.3 Billion a year wasted of tax dollars. Their nothing but liberal cheer leaders. Wouldn't bother me if the government shut those socialists down and used the money for important things, maybe give it to Kathleen so she can **** it away, like the Ontario Economy. Enjoy the equalization payments you socialists. Remember it came from hard working Western Canadians.

And a majority of cell owners have no need for an iPhone app that was recently updated. But yet it shall remain supported.

Yes because Apple doesn't have a majority share of the cell phone market.

Well if you were capable of following logic you might suspect that Apple is the Majority since "android" as a category is a misnomer given that any manufacturer or dev can make a fork of the core android OS thus not making it the same as what iOS name would suggest as a singular unified OS such that it could be consider "one" for the purpose being discussed.

A good number of the multi fork android devices are running old versions of the OS and this updated app may not work for many of them thus they would be excluded from the exercise.

lastly, the majority of android device owners are outside of north america. So yes, Apple as a manufacturer or iOS as the OS for this updated app, would constitute a majority in Canada.

Now excuse me.......I have to go add you to the ignore list.

Let's not forget that the app does not bring revenue to BB. Having a BB10 app or not will do nothing for BB. It will affect the cost of IT resources at the CBC.

Actually apps to make money. Apps that cost money, BlackBerry gets a cut of. Free apps help populate the bb world ecosystem the more apps in BlackBerry World the more people will be interested in buying a blackberry. That is a large part of people's issue with BlackBerry is lack of apps.

Do you seriously think a CBC News app will sway a buyer one way or the other?

Apps are the issue, but to say that CBC has a mandate to have a BB10 app to support BB because it's a Canadian company, is, well...
