BlackBerry's November Triumph - Exclusive New BBM Download Data - Forbes

The most surprising aspect of BBMs success is probably its strong showing in Asia, where it is competing head to head against powerhouse messaging apps like LINE, WeChat and KakaoTalk. Brand new data from Distimo shows download shares of leading messaging apps across a broad spectrum of Asian countries. This data was gathered over the month of November, so it does not include the first week spike of BBM downloads that yielded 10 Million new users across Apple's AAPL -0.31% iOS and Google's GOOG +0.55% Android devices......

This is interesting news. Looking forward to the coming months and the release of voice, video and channels to our BBMx friends. This is the way BB will clearly differentiate itself from these other messaging apps.

Is the writer from BGR? His name sounds familiar, though I haven't been on the site for ages. Surprising!

Some really interesting stuff. I think these are the first numbers we've seen since the 20 million BB announced in the very beginning.

This importance of these numbers can't be overstated as it's things like these that will win investors trust back for the company. If people believe BBM is catching on, they'll be way more likely to consider it a serious contender the the xplatform/social spheres, which means BB can turn those users into dollars. Great news for BBM Channels.

They do include Whatsapp on the 'teaser' to the related article (published Nov 26). Interesting that they didn't include it in this latest chart. Maybe everyone delete their Whatsapp .... lol...

So if BlackBerry is a popular device then BBM is popular....

So what if BlackBerry hardware isn't a big seller?? Those are the markets we need to see some growth in!

While this is interesting news, it does nothing for BB since it's a free service. Probably stopped people from buying BB's all together. So again while everyone is happy, and ecstatic. Blackberry is still suffering from lack of revenue and hardware sales.

It may not produce revenue right now, but they are developing a very valuable asset. If they do this right, BBM could end up the most valuable asset BlackBerry owns, even more than the patent portfolio.

I'm a big believer in a services future for BB. This is great news.
