Weve had some hands-on time with the newest BlackBerry 10 powered smartphone (runs OS 10.2) and really liked it.

And people wonder why Rogers, after pushing BB10 harder than any other carrier, is passing on this. The sales would be in single digits.

    $700?!

It looks like they've given up on acquiring or converting non BlackBerry users and are aiming to sell the phone to "prosumers".. with a price like that, anyway. I can't even blame Rogers.

I'll still get one though.. after that price tanks in the coming months

I know three people who have NEVER owned a BlackBerry ready to get the BB Z30.

BlackBerry & Nintendo Alliance. Bring Pokmon to BlackBerry 10.

    Over $150 cheaper than a 16GB iPhone 5S

This is a good price point.

Not really when you can get a higher spec'd phone (with a massive ecosystem) for the same or less S4 ($700), LG G2 ($650), SONY Z1 ($700).

If it's been said once.? Specs don't matter. Only matters on Android.

It's a fair price for a device with a 1920x1080 Full HD Super AMOLED screen and a 2.3GHZ quad core CPU.

Oh, wait, that's the Note 3. The Z30 has the same specs as last year's Note 2, minus the quad core.

The Note 2 is going new for about $575 off contract since the release of the Note 3. It's always had a $100 premium because of the S Pen and digitizer.

So the Z30 should be no more than $475 off contract -- probably $400, given the ecosystem and sales problems.

But it does matter, the average person walking into a store looks around and finds the Z30 and the LG G2. They see the LG G2 for $50 less, has a Snapdragon 800 quad core 2.26 GHz chipset (with an Adreno 330 GPU) versus a dual core running at 1.7 GHz (Adreno 320 GPU).
They think, this sounds much faster.

Next they see a 5.2" screen that is 1080p, 423 ppi resolution compared to the 5" 720p screen at 295 ppi. Oh, a bigger screen with much better resolution, sounds good to me.

Next they see the LG G2 has 32 GB of memory versus 16 GB.
    Double the storage, nice.

13 megapixel camera with OIS versus 8 megapixel and no OIS (and video recording at 60 fps versus 30).
    Gotta have a good camera.

    3,000 mAh battery versus 2,880.
Nice, I hate when my phone dies before bed.

Then they hold it and the G2 is shorter, narrower and thinner (despite having a 8% larger screen).
    Sold!!!

Which one do you think they are going to pick? (hint, its not the Z30, especially when the Z30 is $50 more and has no ecosystem).

The average person doesn't care about specs, they care about which one runs better. Comparing the two phones, you wouldn't notice the difference in specs.

Ecosystem is a different matter, I think the average person will buy a phone based on the ecosystem.

I don't know where you buy your phones, but the stores I go to don't generally have the specs right next to the phone, the user will use the two phones, and see that they run about the same.

But when choosing a phone, they will no doubt compare specs to see what is a better value. Why would the average person choose the Z30?

99% of the public has no idea about OS optimizations, browser tests and hardware benchmarks. They care about what the screen size is, how good the camera is and how many apps there are.

And on BB10. Where you need 2 GB RAM, if you dont the device to be sluggish.
Heck, even the newest version of Android runs fine on a 1 GB phone.

    But really...

SEVEN HUNDRED DOLLARS?!?! For a device with last years CPU and screen?!?
(It's the S4 dual core CPU that Android phones had last year, and mid range phones this year. The screen is also the 720p SAMOLED screen featuring an inflated pixel count you found on Android phones last year.)

If they wanted this device to move at all, it should be priced at 449-499$, max. Perhaps 599 for a 64gb version.
At 700$ it'll probably sell even worse than the Z10.

It's like blackberry doesn't even try anymore...

Hey, you support Blackberry don't you? The guys on the "I support BBRY..." bought shares and took big losses - many many thousands. At least you can support Blackberry directly with your money and you get a pretty decent smartphone.

Who of you pay full price for a phone? Carriers subsidizes and/or schedule out payments over two-years (around $25/month). The pricing is around (or less) than other pricing of similar phones as previously pointed out.
