    Paging @yhamaie
Here in Japan the surviving admirers of BlackBerry devices (sporting BlackBerry 10 OS and legacy OS . . . perhaps countable in the order of 1,000s or even 100s by now) have been closely following this piece of news as soon as Fox (which has been distributing Passport and Classic since late last year) announced that it would sell PRIV as well.

    BlackBerry Priv Black SIM??? ??????? Android 32GB | ?????iPhone 6/6s/6sPlus/6 Plus???/BlackBerry??caseplay

    FDD-LTE 1,2,3,4,5,7,8,12,13,17,19,20,25,28,29,30,Cat 6
    TD-LTE 38,40,41
    HSPA+ 1,2,4,5/6,8
    Quad band GSM/GPRS/EDGE

We have not been able to find if this particular PRIV is a slightly localized variation of STV100-3 or a STV100-? specially manufactured for Japan.

    That's a STV100-3, if we don't look at band 19.

Band 19, 850 MHz (830-845 UL, 875-890 DL) is a subset of band 5, 850 MHz (824-849 UL, 869-894 DL.) So maybe MFBI allows band 5 devices to work on band 19? If this is true, maybe this Japanese seller took some technical liberties to indicate the presence of band 19, maybe to assure Japanese buyers that this phone would indeed work on a band 19 LTE network?

The other theory I have is that maybe this is a hidden band, a la UMTS 1700 in the RFF91LW Z10. If so, I am not sure why BB would "hide it" from documentation.

While it is also possible this is an altogether new variant, I feel that's highly unlikely. In my opinion, under present circumstances, BB would not do an extra production run to accommodate one extra LTE band. If they were pairing it with a Japanese keyboard...maybe. But that would be still be a relatively expensive manufacturing run, and unprecedented for BB.

Speaking of keyboards, yhamaie, do you feel that the Priv not having a Japanese physical keyboard would be a non-issue for Japanese buyers, or could it be a big reason they may choose to look over this device?

No . . . there is no indication that Fox Incorporated has been selling PRIV devices with a few Japanese characters imprinted on keys located at the bottom row like those 9000, 9300, 9700, 9780 and 9900 devices which have been distributed through NTT DoCoMo until (not very) recently. (Please refer to https://foxinc.jp/blackberry/ .)

Oh wow. I wasn't aware of a "Japanese keyboard"-version of these phones. I stand corrected--sounds like BB did do a small run of phones with Japanese characters.

Out of curiosity, how important are the characters they chose to include over all the others? I couldn't help but notice it's just three characters (in addition to the Yen symbol.)
