My guess for order of availability of devices: Samsung Note, iPhone 6 and Passport. Perhaps BB will announce the Passport sooner, but it won't be available before the Note 4 and iPhone 6.

It's sure they'll launch passport and it will be available end of September or beginning of October

I think this is going to be a problem. Historically people will hold off until the iphone releases - affecting other oem sales. Or they wait for a Sammy device. Arguably (though the sales are rather good) the note series is niche. The Passport will be even more so. But then people that would buy the Passport will not necessarily be ones buying the other two. Thing is, it may be harder to convert consumers from the other two brands than the other way round. Here's hoping all is well.

I suspect timing within September wouldn't matter for the Passport. The ppl who have made up their mind on iphone6 and Note4 would have already set their sights on their device of choice. I think BlackBerry decision to step back from the consumer market is the best business sense in a long time. In an ironic way, it's return to "mysterious business device" might even prompt a few regular consumers to check it out of curiosity....

The confidentiality agreement on the Passport's FCC Filing ends on Sept 12 so it may be that it will have its release event 3 days after that of the iPhone 6.

i feel bad for BB. Samsung and Apple always sell. I always buy BB... but to many people just fallow the crowd.

Also possible that Apple will release 2 phones (it's kinda guaranteed if you take the new dev tools into account), but stagger them somewhat. iPhone 6 available in September. Bigger iPhone 6 available in October/November.

It is gonna be an interesting Autumn for those of us that watch this kind of thing.

September is always a big month... best time to announce new devices and have devices stocked, and ready for the very important Christmas season. Think almost everyone has a "new" device that is about to be launched...Apple, Samsung, LG, Sony, Motorola, and of course BlackBerry.

Mentioning Ara even as they admit it won't be coming until at least 2015 (which I am still skeptical about) makes that article a bit of a stretch.

    But goodness, the comments...

    Well, that is a given

Passport is a dark horse. I am *very* curious how big the initial run will be and how significant a launch it will get in North America. There hasn't been a flagship showcase launch here since the Z10 and no matter how pricey I do think it is necessary. The Z30, arguably their best phone, suffered badly from neglect coming as it did when things were in such turmoil.

BlackBerry should not shy away from the fight. The Passport launching in September will not change its chances of doing well or not doing well.

Passport is different I think people are looking for different what happened to all these world class spec touch phones that were going to dominate things. Samsung ,HTC,lg,they all took there run and not one of them lasted more then a few weeks in the spotlight. Even the amazon fire was a bust. We all know that people want change and significant change sorry fingerprint scanners and bigger screens aren't cutting it but a different form factor with a keyboard now that's out of the radar. I think it won't be an instant success but it will stay in the conversation longer and at this point all blackberry wants is a chance to get recognized they weren't even an option but now maybe they are at least in the game.
