I agree that these prices are too high. I will be watching the site though to see if they drop any. Wouldn't mind picking up a white z10 or q10 if the price is right.

You start with the high price so that when you discount it, it seems a better deal.

That did not work when the Z10 went from $199 to $0 on contract.

Probably should go $50 less and that would look reasonably good. They are eliminating the middle man and therefore can afford to sell for less.
Get as much money as they can for the inventory that has been marked down to basically $0.

I think this should drive the price of the shares up as their next quarter will recover some of the losses from the last quarter's inventory mark down.

Of course, they have to reiterate that they are not going out of business and will continue to enhance the BB10 OS.

I also think they should have CrackBerry sell them on their website. It is an easy name to remember and is already set up.

I would be interested in buying a z30 direct from BlackBerry if the price was decent. I'm growing tired of carrier upgrade cycles.

Is it possible that the carriers will ban any kind of non-carrier approved upgrade to the OS? After all, supposedly they are doing testing for a reason.

BTW, I think this is only going to happen in the US because the carrier support is good in Canada, for instance.

Here in canada the carriers have proposed not allowing unlocked bring your own device, but the government has put a stop to that motion.

I wonder if the white Q10 supports the T-Mobile 3G frequency. I know the site says compatilbe with AT&T and T-Mobile but you could say that as long as it works on 2G.

It says 4G LTE right above that. But I'd contact them just to make sure.

Good move, I would rather buy my phones directly from the BlackBerry website. They should have done this long ago.

Nokia sold Symbian phones unlicked online and in 3 US flagship stores for years. They closed them down in 2010 because they weren't selling. If you have no ecosystem and you sell unlocked phones for $500 when carriers sell iPhones at $200, you're gonna have a bad time.

You don't see the difference between phones sold outright and those bought with a contract? Seriously?

Presumably those in stock already are built and packaged for specific carriers. I wonder how hard it would be to go back in and unlock those phones?

Who's going to support these phones? You can't go to your carrier. Will you have to pay $50 or whatever it is just to talk to someone at BlackBerry?

The carrier, if I'm paying a monthly fee to my carrier they dang will help me lol or I would be finding a different carrier.
Trust me if you talk to the right department in any carrier they will help, they don't want to lose your business

$549.00 for the Q10! Can't see many people buying at that price.

Performance award??? Ha! I haven't seen that in years. Being a government employee, I've been told to be happy I had a job and not be concerned with awards. Although... I did get a very nice coin from the Commander a while back.

Does anyone know what models the Q10 actually are?

I know it says compatible with ATT and TMo but I'm curious if they are - 5 units?

Looking at the prices on ShopBlackBerry. com I recall when I got my Z10 on contract form AT&T back in Feb. the sales man asked me "if I wonted to buy insurance". I said "no", he said these phones cost $600.00". I paid $200.00 with a two year contract, he wonted to know "if I wonted to trade/sale my white 9810 Torch for $100.00." I said "no". At the time I thought that I might need it but the Z10 has been so reliable it has never given me any trouble not even a reboot.

I did go on line at the AT&T site and get insurance, it was less than in store insurance, they wonted $9.00 a month an on line it was $6.00 a month.

But I now wish that I had traded the Torch in, it just sits on my desk.
One reason I kept it is because I like a physical key board and I was not sure if I would really like the key board on the Z10, but I love it, I look forward to using the Zed's key board.

Given that these phones are not even being stocked in most retail locations any longer, BB pretty much had to go this route sooner or later if they weren't sticking the phones in a landfill.

However, the price is WAYYY to high on the Z10. $349 USD might have been reasonable, though $299 would be better if they really want to move them and grow the user base quickly. (You can get a 16GB Nexus 4 for $249).
    Z10 should be CAD250.00
    Q10 should be CAD200.00
    Q5 should be CAD150.00

Don't knock the prices. They can't undersell the carriers. When the price comes down (and it will) it will happen at the carriers first. Being cheaper on Amazon or Ebay won't make a difference as it is mostly 3rd party vendors and they are probably already selling them at very low margins.

    1. Q10 should not be cheaper than the Z10
    2. The two should not be cheaper than the Play Store Nexus 4, which was missing LTE bands, SD and HDMI functionality.
