You're reading a lot into the real estate sales. Blackberry has come right out and said that their headquarters will remain in Waterloo.

You, or a mod, should change your thread title. Your title states it like a fact, which it is not.

You have 100% missed the point. They are selling their building to a REIT and leasing it back.

They're getting rid of redundant or unused holdings.
Where does it say they are leaving canada???

Wow... Nothing to do with leaving Canada. Although I'm guessing you've figured that out by now

    j/k

Seriously the company just announced its going to continue being headquarated in Waterloo.

Don't know if you know much about the reigion, but BlackBerry has built the tech center in the region. Not only that but two of the Universities and dozens of other companies rely on the business! :P

It's a common thing for quite some companies. For example Nokia also sold their Finland based HQ last year and leased it back. It's a short term way of gaining and saving money. Since BlackBerry is set to shrink anyway, I think it's a logical reaction to reduce the real estate space the company owns right now. I doubt they'll leave Canada. You can't just completely move the whole company out of country over night, since not every employee, especially key employees, will follow.

As the OP misinterpreted the article and there are already other threads on the real estate topic...
