Announced at the Mobile World Congress in Barcelona earlier this year, BlackBerry has launched the Leap for the Indian market. Priced at Rs 21,490, this is the new all-touch device from the BlackBerry stable.

Featuring a 5-inch 720p Gorilla Glass 3 display, it looks similar to the BlackBerry Z3. It is powered by 1.5-Ghz dual-core Qualcomm Snapdragon processor with Adreno 225 GPU and is paired with 2 GB of RAM.

It runs on BlackBerry OS 10.3.1 and offers 16 GB of internal storage, which is further expandable up to 128 GB. There is an 8-MP rear camera and a 2-MP front facing camera onboard.

BlackBerry has added a 2800-mAh battery to this phone, which the company claims can offer up to 25 hours of usage. Due to the limiting app ecosystem on the BlackBerry operating system, the users can download apps from Amazon AppStore in addition to BlackBerry World.

"The BlackBerry Leap was designed specifically for the young power professionals who see their smartphone device as a powerful and durable productivity tool that also safeguards sensitive communications, while on-the-go," says, Sunil Lalvani, Managing Director, BlackBerry India. "With BlackBerry Leap we continue to provide products and services that meet the needs of our consumer and enterprise customers,"

Priced at Rs 21,490, the other smartphones under the same price category that pose competition to the Leap are OnePlus One and Xiaomi Mi 4 for Rs 21,998 and Rs 21,999, respectively for the 64GB internal storage variant. Both these smartphones run on Android operating system and are open to third party app installation.

Going to be a hard sell with the competition pricing you included at the end. BlackBerry can't even release three year old hardware cheaper than the competition can do new internals with 4 times the storage.

I know. Its bizarre. That makes four handsets released in the last two + years with the exact same specs minus screen size and resolution.

490 is less than 999. FYI. Might want to work on your math when forming an insult.

Ah yeah I messed that up. They can release 3 year hardware for $7 less than the competition can release new hardware and 4 times the flash for. Makes it seem way better when you take that 2% differential and put it into perspective.
