I wonder if CrackBerry has any update, news, or opinions on what this could mean.

It's all about cost savings. Look for BlackBerry Live to have a BlackBerry Jam Session just like last year. It will be Global like BlackBerry Live. Just drop the Americas from it. Makes sense do both at once. A lot of people travel from other parts of the world to BlackBerry Live. Met a few people from Pakistan last year. It is truly an international event. It should be treated as such.

    I guess that makes sense.

I just hope they don't give up on their developers. BlackBerry needs them now more than ever.

In his open letter John Chen said:

We have begun moving the company to embrace a multi-platform, BYOD world by adopting a new mobility management platform and a new device strategy. We are also leveraging our tremendous assets, including BBM, our network and QNX. While we are proud of these accomplishments, we know there is more work to be done.

I know that it’s going to take time, discipline and tough decisions to reclaim BlackBerry’s success and we are ready for that challenge.
No mentions of BB10 as a "tremendous asset", although he talks about tough decisions. I think the fate of BB10 is sealed.

Exactly, I see BB going to Android and making a secure skin (most likely something that looks like BB10) which would do quite well in my opinion.

Yes but he does mention QNX which primary use currently is for BB10 and he talks about adopting a new device strategy and I am assuming those devices use BB10.

If BlackBerry would have spent less money on Jams and more money making a premium Z10 build that had no reboots, iphone quality camera and a great battery and a OS that was more mature and user friendly ... would they be better off today.

I would have rather have had a really great quality build phone with the traditional BB experience on that phone than the product that they delivered. The money spent on Jams may have been misspent . Did the developers really deliver at a level that would have justified the expense.

Does Samsung, Google or iphone have jams ? ( that is a question)

I'm pretty sure you can only make jam from blackberry's. Never had apple jam

Yeah I think that they're giving up on BB10 which is sad because it is truly a stellar OS. The blackberry reputation truly took a hit.

didnt they say just the Europe one... that was supposed to be in a few months?

Maybe they are postponing it, maybe they are having one HUGE one or a couple of bigger ones. we dont have a lot of info right now.

we also have to realize that there is new mgmt so they have to see what they want to happen, and a couple of months isnt enough to do that... especially when the even will take a while to prepare.

Also the QNX mention could mean BB10, but just bunched with all the other QNX devices/iterations to save space and prevent confusion. Chen also did not specifically mention Android. So if you want to 'take his word' for what it is, or infer from what it says, then you have to do it both ways.

Rumors killed BB, lets give the new guys some time to set up and see what happens.

Honest question, did anything good come out of all the jam sessions? I haven't heard of any success stories from a developer or BlackBerry. Have any apps hit the $10k mark yet?

I'm surprised at the speed at which the cancellation of one event leads to full-blown speculation that BB10's fate is sealed.

Well since we are getting hundreds of thousa.ds of Android apps, BlackBerry jam sessions seem kind of redundant don't they?

*if* we get those apps. For now only a select few can use the leaked os that supports those apps. Mine doesn't, does yours?

This coffin has so many nails there's no wood left. Face it, another nail won't hurt.

Yes, they do. There are the primary ones in SF (very difficult to get tickets) and then Apple and Google have smaller events around the world.

Yep. They're huge events too. Tickets sell out faster than a Jimmy Buffet concert. It's crazy how much they spend on the events, especially with all the goodies they give away. Well maybe not Samsung so much, but Google throws a good party.
