Not sure if this has been posted here -- can't see that it has...

Anyhow John McAfee talks about the Sony hack. Demonstrates how he thinks it went down, using the news anchor's BlackBerry Bold.

The hack itself has nothing to do with the Bold. It is a trivial phone system user account breach. Trivial if you have a careless PBX admin that allows simple passwords (ones that have your extension within, simple patterns like 1234, etc.). The hacker would call/remote login to your ext. (press # or * on many PBXs), then auto-forward your extension to an external line (a cell phone). And then use the cell phone to make calls "as you". Then they'd call around and social engineer their way to the important stuff. Easily defeated by requiring longer passwords/locking the account after 3 failed attempts to log in.

Anyhow -- showing the BlackBerry in the demo is a bit of weird irony to me. On the one hand it is good to see a big organization still using their BlackBerrys. Heh.

I wonder how many casual viewers would just see the BlackBerry and jump to a wrong conclusion.

(edit: yeah it's Fox Business not Fox News -- much lower viewership)
