Apparently it does not run directly on the computer. It runs from your device over wifi or usb. You can attach files using the native windows file picker, etc.

Like a BBM bridge to desktop type thing.

Going to be interesting to have phone, PlayBook and PC all synced with the same messages at once.

For mac users apparently they are going to make it too.

This didn't go to well for bridge so I hope the same doesn't happen to BBM. Why not make it a native client On the desktop itself?

Bridge was/is over blue tooth. This is over wifi or USB. With full functionality and minimal bugs it will be interesting.

I don't believed they announced a time frame so who knows how long it will be.

May not mean anything but at this point I do not see the BBM video icon on the screen shot.

Shows "invites" instead of groups like BBM on PlayBook.

Exact same interface as the Playbook Bridge BBM. Seems like a very primitive version though. I'd assume they would redesign the interface for the desktop version and also the final version would have BBM Channels and all the other stuff.
Probably won't get it for at least a few months, otherwise they would have announced some sort of timeline. E.g. "End of the year." Or maybe they learned not to give any guidance on timelines. lol

Hmm, my enthusiasm for this has dropped. A self contained app that you can download to your desktop would have been better, I.e., like the old msn clients. If I have to hook my phone to my computer, I may as well just use my phone then. I suppose a lot could change though given that this won't be to market anytime soon.

Are you ever without your phone around the computer you will install it on? I'm not.

Forgive me for being dense, but this does need a mobile device with BBM to work, correct? And only BB10 at that?

What good is this if it has to be tied to a BB phone? What happened to BBM4ALL, etc?

If it does not run directly on the computer and only from your device over Wi-Fi or USB then what is the real point?
Sure, you can use a better keyboard to type messages (irony?) but it won't help expand BBM and you still need a working BB phone right there.

This should be more like the iMessage app for OS X. It works without any connection to a phone (but messages can be sent from the computer "as-if" they came from the phone number). In fact, you don't need to own a phone at all.

Also, was this merely a technology demonstration or was it actually announced - with a real public release date or ETA?
