Couple of my friends are so infused with the Google ecosystem that when they downloaded bbm they asked if there asked if there was a desktop version of this. I personally don't need desktop app for Bbm but it would be such a competitive advantage for us if BlackBerry was serious of making one (I know it was demoed in BlackBerry jam asia)

Registered users will sound better than downloads even though not all registered users are active users. However nowadays that is what all companies use.

They don't need a dedicated desktop application. A HTML5 version that you can sign in on any PC/browser makes much more sense then writing Windows/OSX/Linux versions.

Visit BBM.com, sign in, chat away.

I have atleast 30 people on my F.B. posting their pins and asking people to add them. Most of them were former BB uses and wanting to relive the BBM experience.

Every time he has ever predicted something, almost the exact opposite has happened. I wish he hadn't said anything, it's like a curse on Blackberry.

Oh, and lol at berry leaks. They've now gone to "predicting" things that will inevitably happen anyway. Next berry leaks prediction: the next BB10 OS update will be numbered 10.#.#

Have been following on twitter. #BBM still clocking over 6k tweets per hour.

    General mood has gone:

    "what's with this ****e bbm"
"stop with all the damn pin requests"
"I'm about to give in to peer pressure"
    "what's your pin?"

While 20+ million downloads sounds great, that number has not been confirmed. Besides, that number is misleading... Even if 20+ million downloads is accurate, the more important statistic would be the number of unique users retained. So, how many out of those that are included in the 20+ million downloads (1) were downloading on multiple devices, and (2) have actually decided to stick with it?

Now all BB has to do is give the iOS and Android users an awesome experience better than anywhere else, and tell them that's just the tip of the iceberg, if they want the full experience that is so much better, they have to get a BlackBerry

I don't think you have much of a choice. If your friends are using BBM, than you have to as well. Otherwise be out of the loop

Don't rain on the parade. When it comes to apps, the number of downloads is deemed significant. I don't see anyone trying to split hairs when other messaging apps talk about their 70-100 million (or whatever the numbers are) "users",

I don't think 20M downloads is true. Here is my reasoning :

Google Play shows 5,000,000 to 10,000,000 downloads. Let's take 'high' of this range. That is, 10,000,000 downloads. Android has a much larger marketshare than iPhone. If we assume that download-proporation is same in both OSes, it stands to reason that iPhone would have less than 10,000,000 downloads so far.

This means, total downloads would be < 20M.

What does this mean? This means, we need to
    a. invite more of our friends and family to BBM
    b. once invited to BBM, we NEED to talk to them over BBM next few days so that they get used to using that app. If we just ask them to download and then don't chat with them on BBM, they'd soon forget about it and won't invite anyone else.

I find it sad how on here people try and make good things seem not as good or seem bad, for example, sure it has been downloaded 20 million times, but how many of those are by owners of more than one phone? or how many actually kept it? But on iOS and Android forums, they don't do that.

If blackberry has a line of features planned, that they execute with the current momentum, things could get intense. I'm looking forward to channels and interested in knowing if the deal they signed in January with visa is going to show up in some innovative form through BBM .
