Lol wow I've never seen a tech writer get so emotional over a phone company. I legit think his wife ran off with a BlackBerry exec or something. That or he's short the stock. Why else mention stock price when comparing handsets and os's?

You prefer a certain phone manufacturer? Ok that's cool. But why get so **** hurt over it? Reading that article reminded of a teenage girl sitting in her room angrily texting a boy who stood her up while tears well up under her eyes.

Make your facts. State why you believe something is better than the competitor(even though he's using the old Bold to back up his point.) No need to get so emotional. Lay off the soy and remember they're just stupid phones.
I personally think his carrier refused to replace his defective storm at some point, so now he is slandering the entire company! lol

Some people will never get it. I have an iPad Air and hitting the home button to switch apps feels clumsier than ever on that big thing. iOS is simple and some find it beautiful. It's hardly innovative, and multitasking and getting around the OS isn't a nice experience.

That's why I think the Passport is a risky device...a device like that could either be a savior in some sense or absolutely dig the company's grave. I think a REALLY high end touch would have been a better option.

I'm not a fan of the Passport, and I'm afraid the media won't be either. And I'm afraid they'll mock the buttons on the Classic. These were risky devices to pump out, especially with no flagship touch on the horizon
So keep it simple like they've done the past 3 high end devices? The most successful companies have at one point or the other faced make or break situation and trying to err on the side of caution usually doesn't provide much in terms of make..

This. Lot of people just don't seem to get it. Their desire for a high end BlackBerry touch does not mean that is the best path for BlackBerry.

    Posted via CB10
Exactly, can you imagine another all touch device being launched in place of the Passport... followed shortly by the 4.5" and 5.5" iPhone 6? It wouldn't stand a chance to even make a splash. At least the Passport is diving into a different (albeit smaller) pool.

    What an idiotic article.

After showcasing my picture password, every iPhone and Android user wanted to switch to a BlackBerry.

Listening to music on an iPhone is a pain in the rear - It pauses YouTube music when replying an sms.

Switching from BlackBerry to iPhone is like switching from a horse to Flintstone's car. Except this car is so rainbowy-ish and cartoon-ish. Oh wait...that's why it's so "magical"!

Really? Nobody saw this coming? Since the first minute I saw the Passport I have been saying this was going to happen. People don't care what the device can do or if it is innovative or not. Most of the review sites and the general public will take one look at the device and either write articles like this or just look the other way. WHY? Because it's a QWERTY BlackBerry. And worse, it's a funny looking and ugly BlackBerry.
I hate to say I told you so, but this is only the beginning. The general public will laugh and joke about it. Doesn't matter if they tried it or not. Doesn't matter if it the best invention since the wheel. It's a QWERTY and has BlackBerry's name on it and that is why this is going to keep happening. BlackBerry should have put out a sexy all touch flagship to get people interested in BlackBerry's name again. Then released this disaster of a phone. Just my opinion.
Are you able to comprehend things? The guy isn't talking about the passport per se. Did you even read the article ? smh Idiocy.

    Consider this:

-you discover that your parents were siblings
    -someone hides your Viagra
-your applikation for a membership in Scientology was rejected cause you are TOO blockheaded
-beginning with the first grade of school you were harassed by schoolmates, the teachers and the janitor
-dogs and cats disallow you to pet them
-your girlfriend leaves you cause of your weird affinity to horses (which is named Steve and your were caught by giving Steve Jobs...)
-you prefer "dirty talk" with Siri
    -Al Qaida fears YOU
THAN you would also as desperate as the author of the article and would write something bizarre.... Be tolerant and show compassion...

In the US , the "carriers" did/do play a role in the public's perception of BlackBerry. I know that when I first purchased my Q in July 2013, the refusal of *AT&T update the OS past 10.1 in any timely fashion almost made me return the device. Instead, I started loading leaks. The majority of phone users are not going to do that. The functionality gap between 10.1.X and 10.2 is phenomenal. 10.3 is well on it's way. Too bad the US carriers are almost two years behind in implementation.

It's clear that the author of the article has never touched a current BB10 device. I am very interested in the Passport. I think it's a very good platform for BlackBerry and to demonstrate how BB10 is an excellent modern, secure and productive OS. The "oddity" of it's size, shape, and PKB has generated a significant amount of interest. Both positive and negative, even on CB10. As has been stated, the hub and many of the innovations in BB10 are "must haves" once you experience them. Getting hands on a device is the true selling point. That is a difficult thing to do when the perception is that current/modern BlackBerry devices are OS7 with new touch hardware. The Passport may be able to resolve that because it is so different (provided that it is available at retail). It is pretty clear that the author of this "article" believes this and is attempting to reinforce this perception.

While it would be great if BlackBerry recaptured 30% market share, I don't believe that is the intent of the device. I love my Q and BB10. Then again I also use all three major desktop OS platforms. I'm not the typical consumer. The mainstream purchaser of this device will be the individual that is interested in the productivity aspects and technological advances of the device, not the user that uses their device solely for Instagram and Snap. I think that the "slab" device war is a battle that BlackBerry is staying out of to some extent.

In my opinion only, I think BlackBerry has determined that the incremental growth of market share, the OS development, increasing the exposure of the platform, and an incremental return to profitability in the US, is more important than trying to compete directly against Samsung and Apple. It's better to "live to fight another day" than to die in a battle you cannot win. The Passport and Classic should help further that mission. Then and only then will the "All Touch" wars begin.

I did read the article. Oh, and I did see the HUGE picture of the passport right in the article. Who's the *****?? I am not bashing BlackBerry. I love my BlackBerry devices and the company. What I was saying (pay close attention since YOU have a reading problem spikesolie) is that BlackBerry is going to get mangled by the general public and the media for releasing any device that is not all touch and "cool". Just looking at the Passport is probably what set this guy off!! I bet the first thing this guy thought was "here we go again with an old tech qwerty device, typical old school BlackBerry". Now do you understand what I was saying?? I want BlackBerry to succeed, but the 2 devices John Chen is currently pushing out are both QWERTY. That is going to please a very very small niche and is not going to save the company's reputation as an old school qwerty device maker.
Maybe you and many of the BlackBerry qwerty faithful like the Passport. But stop looking at the device with blinders on. The passport is going to hurt BlackBerry in my opinion.

What would you have them release instead, then? Most people aren't interested in BlackBerry all-touch devices, as they see them as either 'Android without Google Play' or 'iPhone without the prestige'. The only strength BlackBerry has left in the marketplace is that nobody has yet bettered them at the things they do well. Their only hope is to play to those strengths.
I think they should have released a high end full touch at a really competitive price making good use of Foxconn and continue in the emerging markets. Plus a good advertising campaign and maybe offer trade-your-Android-or-iPhone-in

But the Passport is a smart move indeed. BlackBerry chose to not compete with anyone in form factor and design and they even came up with an innovation. I hope it will work well though... personally I love it but many others don't amongst the consumers

This is the battle that BlackBerry has in front of them from the tech media. The Passport and Classic will most likely not be well received in general. There are going to be some scathing reviews because it's a BlackBerry and because it's a form factor that will not appeal to the masses.

That's not entirely fair. It's very easy to seem "reasonable" by simply looking at the current state of an environment and stating that, yes, things will remain as they are, because the current conditions require it and they are difficult to change.

It takes a certain level of belief or appreciation for the unappreciated potential of something, in this case BlackBerry, to support any statement that there is a possibility for the environment (mobile device choice) to change. Since the potential is usually not appreciated by those that can't (by virtue of being unaware or just not wanting to), then to those, a statement that there is a possibility for change will seem ludicrous.

... which is what we see with this article. It's clear the author has not really used BB10 enough to make it work for him, and thus cannot see any potential in it. So to him... it is quite ridiculous that someone would even consider the possibility of it being a viable option.

    I hear ya.

Still, I think what Bla1ze is asking for is a bit of maturity. In the tech world, BB fans are known to get, well, a bit hot under the collar at any perceived slight to the brand.

I have NO problem with a writer saying a device is unviable. Not one. He/she is allowed his/her opinion. Going to a site to attack someone's mom because he said something about... wait for it... my device of choice? Nah. I hold that e-rampaging BB fans (just like raging iOS and Android juicers) do more damage to BlackBerry's image than any writer can.

One thing I think we need to understand is that BlackBerry is FAR from the most disparaged tech brands out there.

I happen to also agree with BKA22. It's not shenanigans. The form factor looks ugly and dated. Anything with a qwerty looks dated to the general public. Blame Apple and Android for that. Blame the whole world for it then.
I know some people will cling to their qwerty devices, but the rest of the whole world has moved away from that and that is what is going to keep making Blackberry look old and outdated.
