I have a sprint 8830 and just switched to verizion can i get this phone programmed to work on verizons network?

You'll have to get the phone unlocked in order to have it work on another carrier.

I've never done it, but try doing a search on here for unlocking phones and you should be able to find an answer.

Darren, Sprint's phones do not work on Verizon network and vice versa. CMDA networks have their limitations; GSM is more forgiving (sim card).

Anyhow, lex is correct. Cdma phones cannot be unlocked to work on other carriers. They are a very different animal than gsm devices, which use sim cards. Cdma phones rely on their esn, which is very device specific. Bottom line is yes, you need to buy a new phone.

Sorry, you cannot unlock a Sprint phone for VZW and vise-versa!!

CDMA has downfalls and is not quite as flexible as GSM carriers

As the others have said, the device will not work. Sorry about that. You might want to try Craigs List. They usually have pretty good deals, and good devices. GL, and welcome to CB.
