I just upgraded from the 8830 to the Storm. Since I've been with Verizon all along, they both have been set up to use CDMA, right? But they're "world phones", so they can work over a GSM network. I'd like to give the phone to use, just as a phone, to my daughter, who has a contract with TMobile. Is this possible? Does it have to be unlocked? How can that be done? I'm reluctant to ask either Verizon or TMobile because each would have reasons for not wanting us to do that.
Thanks. My first question as a Newbie.

Not possible for the 8830 to be unlocked and used on T-mobile USA.

The storm on the other hand, if you are trying to be generous, she would be able to use on T-mobile USA.

8830 - Only has 900/1800mhz bands for voice and EDGE data
Storm - Has 850/900/1800/1900mhz for voice and EDGE data

T-mobile USA uses 1900mhz mostly for voice and EDGE data.
