I recently got an 8800 but the voice dialling doesn't work. I think it was working at first as I accidentally knocked the side button a couple of times and it started prompting me. Now it just goes through initializing and then straight back to the menu.

The only thing I can think of that's changed is it is now synced with the corporate address book (>7000 contacts). Is there a limit on the phone book size for voice dialling?

Can I easily clear the phone book out to try and then resync it again later?

If I switch voice dialling languages (US/UK) then it rescans the phone book but it still doesn't work.

Any ideas?

Have you tried the good old battery pull yet?

Besides the battery pull, I wonder if due to the volume of addresses in the address book it needs time to initialize?

Does it go through the initialization then back to the menu screen without you pressing a button?

I tried pulling the battery and to my surprise it works! I now get the voice prompt and can use voice commands or dial numbers. But when trying a name it always says no match found.

Changing the dialling language to US causes it to scan the contacts list again and stop working. (It will go into the voice dial app, displays "intializing; please wait" for a short while and then beeps and goes straight back to the main menu).

Pulling the battery starts the voice commands working again so I guess it's related to number of entries in the contacts list.

I say talk with your provider about it. You might have to do a reload of the O.S., or it might even be a hardware issue...

I reduced the number of contacts in my address book to ~450 and the voice dialling is now working so there must be a limit on the number of contacts supported.
