Being a virgin I wouldn't worry about updating your OS till you really get to know your BB. Check out the BlackBerry Lecture series, it will be a great big help.

OS stands for Operatiing System and it is what runs your BB. You can upgrade to a new version. When you feel comfortable enough to do so, check out the upgrade link in my signature below.

In a few weeks you may be ready to make the move to the new OS and by that time Verizon may have officially released it to the masses for an easy upgrade without any real risk.
