Text Ringers on the Storm

Alright I just got the Storm and Love it... but this is my first Blackberry and I'm learning on the fly... for what ever reason I have set the ringers alerts on all the message types (MMS, SMS, Etc.) and none of them ring when I get a new text... how do I make this happen?

I am new as well and having the opposite problem. My profile is set to

Volume=Silent
LED=On
Vibration=On
Notify during call=No

I am still alerted with a beep.
